On the trail of a vicious criminal, agent Chance Mackenzie found the perfect bait for his trap: Sunny Miller. So Chance made himself the only man she could trust—and then arranged for her long-missing father to find out about them.
What Chance hadn't foreseen was that Sunny had reasons of her own for hiding from her father—and now Chance's deception had brought them both one step closer to the end of everything they held dear….

"Ruined A Perfectly Good Book"
This was a good book but when you have a female reader with a SWEET.....SWEET girl voice read it you just ruin the book. Chance was an undercover agent not so sweet person. Reader is ruining the book. Why couldn't you have gotten Dennis Boutsikaris who read all the rest and was wonderful. This reader has just ruined the book. Good God she reads so sweetly. WOW she stated. YUCK.
Love books, preferably romance and suspense. Typically read/listen to 3-5 a week.
"Good Book"
I have wanted this book on audio since I read the paperback. I agree with the other reviewer. Why have a woman do the narration. Why not use Dennis Boutsikaris - he narrated 3 other Mackenzie books, at least that way you would have the same voices. This Narrator may be okay but this was not the book for her. She was not terrible, but if I didn't already love the characters it would have made the experience worse than it had to be.
I was so excited it was on audio I forgot to check to see who the narrator was and was very surprised when it was a female. To have Zane, Chance and Wolfe read by a female; hard to take. The only thing that saved the book is it is a good story and it has the entire family in the book. Those that have followed the Mackenzie family will be happy to revisit the family.
The long wait for this book to finally be on audio was a bit disappointing with the narration, but it left me wanting the story of the Mackenzies to continue. It was fun to see how Chance succumbed to love, marriage and a baby. I know Linda Howard said she didn't think she would do anymore on this series because she couldn't bear to kill off Wolfe or Mary. She is right that would be horrible, but I think there is more to tell without doing that. I am sure she can find another story in this family saga to come up with two or three more books without killing any of the core family members. There seems to be so much more to adventure and tell about the Mackenzies their wives and children.
If you have not listened to the other books you won't be too surprised with the narration, however, you will want to listen to all of the books to get the whole story and understand the family dynamic. It starts with Mackenzie's Mountain. Don't listen to the abridged version to me they left out too much and it changed the story. I read the books and listened to all of them. The unabridged versions are the best unless of course you read the books.
"nice little story"
This is a love story along the typical read boy wants girl gets her loses her gets her again but al in all it was a good book not sorry I bought it. And I'm also a Linda Howard fan
"Interesting,and enjoyment"
Like the McKenzie series there is action and romance. Plus some comedy.
The desert and the picnic also when sunny meets nick.
Pretty much
Yes
Travlin Marge
"Good story with a good albeit female narrator"
Disappointing, but only because this book was not as terrifically 5 stars as the preceding two. Note that I HATE "woman in jeopardy" stories, but then Chance must use the woman he loves as bait BOTH to catch the bad guy and to free her from a life on the run. But he should have let her in on it and trusted her to be strong enough to help him end her life of terror. In addition, Chance isn't careful enouth of Sunny after he tricks her into the line of fire.
Mackenzie's Pleasure - much better story featuring Chance's brother Zane featuring a strong heroine who refuses to be a victim after she's kidnapped by terrorists from a rich socialite's life. Also, Zane is much more focused on protecting his lover in that story than Chance is, even after he realizes she's the target of a perverted madman.
I would have preferred the same male narrator as the preceding books in the series because this series have such very tough, take-charge male protagonists from a very male family. Another review that deplores the female narrator is way off base. She does an excellent job
When Chance realizes that Sunny is running from her father not acting as his agent
"Linda Does It AGAIN!"
I have not read and/or listened to the previous books but this one is VERY GOOD! Love the strong, real characters she has in her books. She is full of good stories and good characters. Enjoying my listening of all of Linda Howard's books...I love her!
"Catching up with favorite friends"
Finding out what the Mckenzies are doing and how the family has grown.
Mckenzies Pleasure
I really didn't have a favorite as it was hard to tell one from another at first.
Naming the baby "Wolf".
It was too fantastical, not realistic, but I like the Mckenzies.
"Survival in the canyon or survival of the heart"
Getting to know Chance. He is sure he isn't cut out for love, but then he just hadn't met the right woman.
Mackenzie's Pleasure. Zane and Chance are a lot a like in being all male but sensitive to the female and having the desire to protect the woman.
She has a great voice and I liked her voice for all of the characters. Her voice expressions are right on.
You thought you knew yourself, but then the unexpected happened . . . love.

"ANOTHER GREAT LINDA HOWARD BOOK"
I thought Chance McKenzie was one of my favorite heros. Linda makes her characters so true to life. The plot was great and kept me reading well into the night to finish and see the outcome. I only hope this is NOT the end of the McKenzie family. I especially like the ending when everyone gets to meet with everyone else in the McKenzie family and how they all help each other in time of need. I would be hard pressed to pick a favorite from this series. I love them all.
