Publisher's Summary

Seth Quinn is finally home....

It's been a long journey. After a harrowing boyhood with his drug-addicted mother, he'd been taken in by the Quinn family, growing up with three older brothers who'd watched over him with love.

Now a grown man returning from Europe as a successful painter, Seth is settling down on Maryland's Eastern Shore, surrounded once again by Cam, Ethan, and Phillip, their wives and children - all the blessed chaos of the extended Quinn clan. Finally, he's back in the little blue-and-white house where there's always a boat at the dock, a rocker on the porch, and a dog in the yard.

Still, a lot has changed in St. Christopher since he's been gone - and the most intriguing change of all is the presence of Dru Whitcomb Banks. A city girl who has opened a florist shop in this seaside town, she craves independence and the challenge of establishing herself without the influence of her wealthy connections. In Seth, she sees another kind of challenge - a challenge she can't resist.

But storms are brewing that are about to put their relationship to the test. Dru's past has made her sensitive to deception and slow to trust. And Seth's past has made him a target of blackmail - as a secret he's kept hidden for years threatens to explode, destroying his new life and his new love.

What the Critics Say

"[Roberts has] once again crafted a poignant and often humorous tale. True to style, she has also thrown in just enough of the paranormal to tantalize. Guaranteed to please the many fans who were waiting for Seth's story." (Library Journal)
"James Daniels's voice conveys convincing female desire, as well as rough male camaraderie, and singes the listener's ears with Roberts's trademark passion." (AudioFile)

    "Good story"

A good story but the voices, especially the women's characters, have a tendency to blend. This would have been better with two readers. Because the main character is a man, they went with a male reader. Even some of the main male parts seem to blend. Sometimes, unless you actually have read the book, you are unsure which of them is speaking.

Regardless, I did enjoy the humor and the characters, however, you may want to read Sea Swept, Rising Tides and Inner Harbor first to get in depth knowledge of the entire story.

    "enjoyable, but..."

I loved how this wrapped up the Quinn's story. However, the problem I had with this was the narration. Many times, there was a southern drawl to many of the characters. Seeing as how the characters are all from the northeastern seaboard, and none of them had an accent in the previous 3 books in this set, it was distracting. Very distracting. The accent seemed to disappear in the last few chapters, which again, was distracting & odd. Not to mention the character's voices weren't well distinguished. The 3 stars combine my 4-star rating for the story & plot, and my 2-star rating for narration.

    "All Love!!!!"
Would you consider the audio edition of Chesapeake Blue to be better than the print version?

Very much!!!! I felt it put the story in a different perspective hearing it than reading it.

Have you listened to any of James Daniels’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I felt he sounded a little mechanical in the beginning but still did a great job.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    The unbreakable family bond.

    Any additional comments?

I hope that this turns into a movie!!! I would be there on premiere night!!!

    "Good Ending"
What made the experience of listening to Chesapeake Blue the most enjoyable?

I like listening to audio books over reading them myself because the narrators are able to bring so much more life into the story than I can.

    Any additional comments?

My only problem with this book was the way Seth let his mother have such control over him. Anyone in their right mind wouldn't allow that to happen but he allowed it to go on for years. This was done in another of Nora Roberts books and it just made me annoyed with the story. The presence of Seth's mother in the story took away from the overall story. It would have been better had his conflict been about something else.

"Just loved it. Family love won out!"
Would you listen to Chesapeake Blue again? Why?

Yes. It is always great to hear how family and marriage has survived over time and hardships and that they still stick together and are always there for each other. The camaraderie between the brothers and their families is great but the sense of humour keeps the story delightful and easy to listen to. A great all rounder!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Seth. He has just turned into a great person despite a bad start in life.

Have you listened to any of James Daniels’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    Not sure.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, I laughed and on occasion felt some sadness.

    Any additional comments?

    Loved it!

"Such a beautiful conclusion to this series!"
What made the experience of listening to Chesapeake Blue the most enjoyable?

The most compelling thing is the interplay of all the family characters you became familiar with in the 3 preceeding stories. Cam, Phillip, Ethan and Seth are interlocking pieces of a strong family puzzle. Their respective wives add color, depth and more humor and love to this fabulous family.

What did you like best about this story?

Seth, the way he thinks, his art work, his love and loyalty to his family!

    Which scene was your favorite?

One of my favorite scenes is his homecoming, and seeing Anna first. The warmth, joy, tenderness and depth of feeling was amazing.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Seth dreamed about Stella, (his grandmother) a person he had never met.

    Any additional comments?

James Daniels does a wonderful job with this narration, the characters voices are finely drawn and the emotional content is honest and true.

    "Whole Series is GREAT!"

This is the last story of the Quinn brothers...the youngest Seth. I was pleasantly surprised that this one was the best of all of the Chesapeake Bay Series.
