SEAL Team Six meets Stephen King in this novel about an elite group of soldiers who protect the United States from supernatural threats.

Halfway through SEAL training, Cadet Jack Walker, still green but showing incredible promise, is whisked away to join four SEALs and their dog for a special-ops mission. Walker soon finds himself in a whirlwind of otherworldly creatures and events as he discovers the true nature of SEAL Team 666. Battling demons, possessed humans, mass-murdering cults, and evil in its darkest and most and ancient form, the members of SEAL Team 666 have their work cut out for them. And it’s not long before they realize that the threat isn’t directed against the US alone - an ancient and deadly cult has far bigger plans, and Walker is at the center of a supernatural conflict in which the entire world is at stake.

Weston Ochse won the Bram Stoker Award for his first novel, Scarecrow Gods, and was nominated for a Pushcart Prize for short fiction. He is a retired U.S. Army intelligence officer and currently works for the Defense Intelligence Agency.

I've listened to this three times, and I'm still not sure. I've given SEAL Team 666 this much deliberation because Maberry mentions SEAL Team 666 (via the character Mr. Church) multiple times in the Joe Ledger series. Sometimes the novel feels a bit like an armed forces recruiting ad, but that's not the problem; I think what strains my suspension of disbelief is how blase all the characters are about the supernatural, including the new guy who had absolutely no idea anything like SEAL Team 666 existed before being assigned to it. There's a good deal to like about this book: the major characters are decently fleshed out, the details of the protagonist's childhood are properly chilling, and the motivation of the villain and the overall set up of the major conflict are logical and interesting. The story has good bones; I think it would have benefited from an "everyman" character who found the supernatural evil they confront as freaky and terrifying as the reader is intended to.

I love the Johnathan Mayberry Joe Ledger series and this doesn't come close. The narration was awful.

It's not Johnathon Mayberry

Narration was powerful , I can actually picture the fire fights. The super natural parts were engaging also.

Captivating

What did you love best about SEAL Team 666?

This was a well written, refreshingly different monster book. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

What other book might you compare SEAL Team 666 to and why?

It was really a bit of a Zero Dark Thirty / Seal Team Six (the movies) goes supernatural. Which was good because Lord knows Zero Dark Thirty could have used the help!

What does Paul Michael bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He did a fine job. As long as he isn't terrible, that's all I ask.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did chuckle here and there, but nothing extreme.

Any additional comments?

A fun listen worth the time and credit, especially if you are looking for something different.
