I picked up this audio book after hearing "The Now Habit" recommended on several productivity blogs whose authors I respect. This is the best book on productivity I have ever read. Fiore describes the psychological root causes for procrastination, and provides several very sensible and doable strategies for attacking the causes.

Some reviewers have complained about the quality of the narration. Personally I think the criticisms are exaggerated. The book is narrated by the author, Neil Fiore, and he has a nice reading voice. Yes, at the beginning of the book his reading is a slow and a bit tentative, and this was mildly distracting. However, by about 1/5 into it, Fiore hits his stride and after that it was a pleasure to listen to.

Fantastic. I will definately also be picking up the printed book.

Best procrastination book I have ever read

What did you like best about The Now Habit? What did you like least?

I gained insight into the reasons I procrastinate and how to retrain my brain with simple fixes.

Would you be willing to try another one of Neil Fiore’s performances?

No. I did not connect with Neil Fiore as a reader. There were awkward breaks in the sentence structure. It never felt like it flowed well. Sort of like being a passenger with a teen driver who constantly taps the brakes. Please don't misunderstand, I did really think the content was quite good.

Do you think The Now Habit needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No, there was some definite repetition in this book. I don't need to hear anymore.

Any additional comments?

I think the unschedule is an interesting concept. This would have worked very well for me as a real estate agent, but in my current administration role, it's not quite as applicable. If you are self-employed or an independent contractor, I would highly recommend this book.

Excellent info, but uncomfortable flow

2x speed felt like normal speed and normal speed seemed like a joke.

Author spends time mentioning the method of other self-help books being inadequate and how this book is different. It's largely the same as other books as far as content.

There are a few gems spread throughout the book that are worth hearing. Particularly some thought exercises.

There's also a guided meditation portion that I thought was both kind of cool and also kind of ridiculous. Meditation's cool. Guided relaxation's not for me, but could be good for others. So worth mentioning there's some in here.

Super crazy slow. Good points here and there.

Literally changed my life. I’m a better person than I was a week ago before I finished this book.

The best book there is on Procrastination

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Neil Fiore?

I found the narration sort of robotic and off-putting.

Was The Now Habit worth the listening time?

There was some useful information within this book that I hadn't heard before around procrastination.

I have heard evolutionary explanations (ie You're basically at war with impulsivity coming from mammal brain - the immediacy and intensity of which is stronger than longterm goals because they are deeper and older in the brain's structure).

What I hadn't heard was an Emotional-Motivational framework explaining what causes procrastination... I found this intensely useful. Basically the one take-away I have after listening.

**Basically start by telling yourself you'll be okay even if you fail, work out what it looks like if you fail, work out how you will cope and how you'll still be fine. Starting from that POV versus what we normally do (make it life or death and immediately trigger our fight-flight-freeze) will stop you from creating the paradigm that keeps you stuck in paralysis.**

Any additional comments?

There was a lot of repetitious name-dropping of 'the system' that Neil Fiore created. Lots of recycling of information too.

Useful, Robotic
