Publisher's summary

The Internet isn't all cat videos. There's also Felicia Day - violinist, filmmaker, Internet entrepreneur, compulsive gamer, and former lonely homeschooled girl who overcame her isolated childhood to become the ruler of a new world...or at least semi-influential in the world of Internet geeks and Goodreads book clubs.

After growing up in the South, where she was 'homeschooled for hippie reasons', Felicia moved to Hollywood to pursue her dream of becoming an actress and was immediately typecast as a crazy cat-lady secretary.

But Felicia's misadventures in Hollywood led her to produce her own web series, own her own production company, and become an Internet star.

Felicia's short-ish life and her rags-to-riches rise to Internet fame launched her career as one of the most influential creators in new media. Now Felicia's strange world is filled with thoughts on creativity, video games, and a dash of mild feminist activism - just like her memoir.

Hilarious and inspirational, You're Never Weird on the Internet (Almost) is proof that everyone should embrace what makes them different and be brave enough to share it with the world because anything is possible now - even for a digital misfit.

Critic reviews

"Everything Felicia creates seems to succeed. This book should be no different. It's a great read - far from 'horrible' and worth every 'Penny'. See what I did there? It's a play on...never mind." (Neil Patrick Harris, author of Choose Your Own Autobiography and Felicia’s costar in Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog)
"Reading Felicia Day's memoir is like going on a road trip with an old friend you never knew you had. This is the perfect book to prove you aren't the only misfit in the world, and to remind you that that's a very good thing." (Jenny Lawson, author of Let's Pretend This Never Happened)
"It's hard to keep up with Felicia Day. She's an actress, a gamer, a screenwriter, a songwriter, a producer, a director, a webmaster, a costumer, and queen of the geek girls. It's hard to imagine where such a prodigy could have come from. Wonder no longer. Felicia tells all... well, most... well, some... in her new book. Reading this is like sitting down and having dinner with her, and hearing the story of her life between the clam chowder and the cheesecake. I can't imagine a more charming or amusing dinner companion. Felicia is a lot of fun, and so is her book." (George R. R. Martin)
"I have personal heroes, and Felicia Day is one of them... She’s more than a self-made woman - I sometimes think she’s not a human woman, that she willed herself into existence, before willing the world to make a place for this new, unfathomable creation. Felicia is stronger than I am, and stranger than I am, and she double-majored in math and violin. I love her for all these things. I love this book because it relates, hilariously and occasionally harrowingly, how she came - or brought herself - to be this singular (though double-majored) creature" (Joss Whedon)

Absolutely Outstanding

This book is like a peak into the amazing life of Felicia Day. You get to go along on this journey with her as she shows you all the highs and lows she has been through, and how she's been able to rise above any obstacle in her way. In this book she also tackles problems about the verbal bulling and abuse people receive online, taking a stand against the trolls. I found this book uplifting and it left a warm glow in my heart. Would definitely recommend to anyone of any a age or gender, as it is funny, emotional and an absolute delight to read :)

If I didn't love her before I for sure do now, she is a brilliant woman.

A weirdly human deja-vu

I've enjoyed Felicias work for a while now, though I'm definitely late to the party compared to fans of hers from back when the Guild started and such.
But despite what the haters say, she is both a genuine geek from what I can tell as well as a fantastic ambassador and voice for both geeks and in a way a generation heavy with geekdom.
I enjoyed her reading of this book which itself was a nice and at times harsh insight into the creative world - nothing that most of us have never heard but here it was real and oddly normal without the melodrama one often hears/sees with stories about the rise and fall of the famous and such.
As someone in India where this culture and mindset is definitely still nascent, much of her struggle and especially with regard to peoples's attitudes and the like hit home a lot. It was also a nice sober reminder and yet retained a sense of hope and patience and staying true to your vision/dreams even when they evolve that I appreciated.

Just buy it already

If you're a fan of Felicia Day, this purchase is a no-brainer. It's a biography, diary and success manual, all wrapped into one perky package - narrated by the always entertaining Codex herself.

Inspired

Been a fan of Felicia Day for a while. I am not a gamer but a woman in technology. I want to find a way to use technology to make a difference in disadvantaged communities...the book is inspirational in that it makes it seem like anything is possible if you believe in your dream. Thanks Felicia for the inspiration!

We both enjoyed this FAR more than we anticipated.

I'm a female. I'm a gamer. Partner is a gamer (we met in WoW 10 yrs ago) and we're both fans of Felicia Day and her work - so we had a pretty good feeling that we would enjoy listening to her book. Truthfully though, we both really didn't expect to LOVE the book as much as we did.

This is one of those books where you'll either love it or hate it - and I'm personally so disappointed that the book came to an end.

Yes yes yes

Yes this book is for you if you are nerdy, geeky like felicia day and or ever felt anxiety. This book is hilarious, relatable, a great insight and just a joy. It deals with Felicias childhood and the time up and including gamer gate.
