Publisher's summary

Derrick Storm, the guy the CIA calls on when it wants something investigated domestically, is 33,000 feet in the air, returning from a rock-climbing vacation in the Swiss Alps, when the plane spirals into a nosedive. Storm uses his climbing gear to tether himself to the wing and heroically save the plane and all the people onboard. Sadly, Storm is not available to come to the aid of the three other planes that have crashed under similar circumstances, killing everyone onboard. Interestingly, many of the victims are powerful people in politics, business, and religious groups.

The always elusive Jedidiah Jones, leader of the National Clandestine Service that has no name, calls on Storm to investigate. Storm determines that an unknown extremist has secured enough of the rare earth element promethium to create a laser with the power to shoot down planes from the ground. The problem swiftly becomes a global one as four more planes crash in the Arabian Desert.

Details, intuition, and courage lead Storm to Monaco, Panama City, and Egypt as he meets beautiful women, rides angry camels, and rescues innocent victims in his valiant effort to track down the maniacal mind.

Nice addition to the series!

Once again, Richard Castle and Robert Petkoff did a wonderful job of bringing Derrick Storm and other characters to life. I've enjoyed this series as well as the Nikki Heat series, both at times are a little out there, but none the less entertaining! Keep up the good work and Mr Castle as long as you keep writing them, I'll keep listening! I highly recommend both series, they won't disappoint!

Great ending to a great series!

I really enjoyed this listen. IT was the last of the genre for me, the end of Castle- but what a great ending!. Derrick Storm is at his finest and it's action packed. We visit Egypt so it's extra fun!. The mystery of the plane crashes takes us all over the world, this series always has exotic locales. It's great to hear about Derrick's relationship with his Dad. This is the kind of story when you hope the series will never end. What a fun spin off of the Castle series.

Derrick Storm makes Superman look kinda wimpy

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Sure. This is a lotta fun, if pure escapism is your thing. Robert Petkoff is great. Richard Castle is also a very gifted writer. I have been reading the Nikki Heat books for the last several years, because they too are pure fun. It's TV level stuff, but who really cares? It's a gas.

What did you like best about this story?

I think that the character Storm is a fantastic creation, one of the most outlandish, comically gifted mega-heroes I've ever enjoyed. He doesn't even need a Tonto. He does it all by himself. In the desert, on the ocean, walking on the wing of an airplane and saving the lives of everyone on board: you get the idea. As Susan Sarandon said about Raul Julia, when he walked into a room, women would swoon. Storm does everything and never breaks a sweat, even in the 120 degree heat of the Sahara desert.

Which scene was your favorite?

The very early scene in which Storm actually does slither out of an airplane, somehow gets out to where a partially broken aileron hangs, fixes the thing with some superior form of duct tape, and then coaches the pilot on how to bring the plane down safely out of its "death spiral." You can almost hear the background music. A movie has to be in the offing. Casting the part of Storm would be an intimidating process. Know any actor who could do this kind of stuff without irony? I don't. Maybe the Hulk.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not possible. I can't listen to eleven or so hours of anything without taking breaks. Also, it gives me pleasure to be able to anticipate what is going to happen next. At this point, almost at the end, Storm is going to single-handedly overpower a massive ocean liner designed by a fabulously wealthy and severely nutty Swedish woman, who has concocted an amazing lethal weapon that really does cause airplanes to drop out of the sky, the thing being powered by some giant laser beam that is made with Prometheum, a uranium-like substance...you get the point. So over the top that the top is a distant bottom. I love Cate Blanchett for the part of the evil genius lady.

Any additional comments?

It feels like Castle and Petkoff can keep up this kind of fun for a long time. I hope so.

Another great Book!

Storm is gifted with looks, brains, talent and manners. Basically a mix of the entire "A Team" from the 80s. For men, Storm is the man they want to be. For women, he is the man they want to be with.

Wild Storm

This is my FAVORITE of all the Derrick Storm books. I am fascinated with Egypt! I grew up loving Egypt and I was super excited to listen to this book. I also love mysteries that happen in Egypt, I always think its fun when a book, movie or tv show have a special about Egypt.

Most excellent!

I am a big fan of the television series and this was just like watching another show since all the characters were just like those I already knew. An awesome read.

Whoever wrote this is the best Richard Castle yet

This latest Derrick storm book penned under the Richard Castle name is the best book of the series, including the Nikki Heat books. This book captures the style you would expect from the fictional author perfectly.

It is rare that a book is so enthralling that it makes me want to listen to it in one session (if that were possible). I found myself taking the long way home, just to get a little bit more driving time to listen to this book.

Even if you haven't listened to any of the other books in the series, this one would not lose anything by being the only one you read. There are a few subtle comments that you might not appreciate fully if you are no a Castle for them, but they are inconsequential.

well written, well read

I couldn't wait for the next chapter. Plus as a fan of Castle the readers voice was spot on to Rick Castle.
