Publisher's summary

What happens when your worst fear comes true?

Her only daughter has just gone away to college, and Maggie O'Farrell knows she's turning into one of those helicopter parents she used to mock. Worrying constantly, texting more than she should, even occasionally dropping by the campus "just to say hi." But Maggie can't shake the feeling that something terrible is about to happen to Emma. And then, just as Maggie starts to relax, her daughter disappears.

The clues are disturbing. An empty dorm room where Emma was supposedly living. A mysterious boy described as Future Husband in her phone. Dormmates who seem more sinister than friendly. As Maggie combs over the campus looking for signs of her daughter, she learns more about Emma's life than she ever thought possible.

Kelly Simmons delivers another gripping novel in Where She Went, an unforgettable story of letting go and the secrets that surface when the person keeping them is gone.

Boring

Whenever I start a book I have to finish even if it’s painful and that was a painful book. I would recommend for teenagers!

Wow, What a Waste of Time!

NO SPOILERS! This book had a good premise but the author did nothing with it. The characters were poorly developed and the story was barely a mystery and definitely not a thriller of any kind. It wS just drama... no suspense!

I kept waiting for it to get better but it didn’t happen. Even the ending didn’t really have any resolution. The whole story felt amateur.

Doesn't deliver

First things first, this is women's fiction, not a thriller, so set expectations accordingly.

Pro's: The character's are very easy to imagine, and to an extent relatable. I connected with Emma, having once been a college freshman struggling to make friends, being a naive young woman. Maggie, while not a mother, was easy to imagine a family member in those shoes. I know some reviews complain about her character, but I think she's real.

Con's: The last 15-20% of this book are just a huge letdown. We build up this mystery and plot and then it just fizzles out. I found the Christian/Catholic mentions with the bit of sex work shaming, quite disappointing.
