Super creative with lots of adventure!

I loved the creative storyline in this audiobook! Gavin was my favorite character, though some of his friends and family were close seconds! Also the Duke!! The narrator's performance was excellent too--her voices and intonation were fantastic!

Twists and Turns

What a wonderful book! I love twists and turns of a story. When you think you’ve got it figured out but you don’t. That makes for great entertainment. The content is very nice and clean with a sense of romance. I highly recommend this book and will look forward to the next one.

A good story

I enjoyed Abbie and Gavin’s love story. This was a love at first sight, forced proximity Florence nightingale with a side of mystery and secrets romance. The story included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline. Gavin is a knight and the oldest son of an Earl. When he is traveling on a ship, the ship is attacked by pirates and he finds himself injured and set adrift in a small boat. Abbie lives on a remote island with her grandfather. When they stumble across Gavin’s injured and unconscious body, they take him home for care and thus begins Abbie and Gavin’s journey to their HEA. The story includes sweet moments, intrigue, fighting, dangerous situations, evil masterminds, henchmen, loyal friends and family, tragic back stories, secrets, snark, laughs, and unexpected plots twists. Overall I enjoyed the story but there were two things that made the story less enjoyable for me. The story was mostly told from Gavin and Abbie’s POV but there were a number of random points that it was POVs from secondary characters thrown in that broke up the normal flow of the story. In addition, while I loved Gavin the entire book, towards the end of the story I was not a fan of Abbie at all which made it difficult to cheer for their HEA.

The narration by Andy Garcia-Ruse was wonderful. Her voice was distinctive enough to differentiate between the characters and it helped to bring the written words to life. I will definitely look for more books with her narration.

Rescuer to Lover

I loved this book. The narrator did a wonderful job with this book. Easy to lusten to. It is about Lord Gavin Shaw and his rescuer Abby Mason. Her and her grandfather found him washed ashore badly beaten and on the brink of death. Gavin falls for his rescuer only to learn that her grandfather had given her promised her betrothal to none other than a ruthless Roger Holden, only for his own monetary gains. Now here is where all the struggles and hardships start for the couple. Abby has her own truths to learn about what she once thought was a loving grandfather. Gavin's fun firey friend Max is another funny character you will fall in love with. It contains pirates and battles to be won. This is a must read in my book.

Andy Garcia-Ruse was the perfect choice to narrate

I thoroughly enjoyed Andy Garcia-Ruse's performance as the narrator. Her flair for the dramatic perfectly matched the feel of the book.

Abigail and Gavin meet when she rescues him and nurses him back to health. Over the course of the book, they go through trial after trial, some with potential threats to their relationship, but they persevere until they finally get their happily ever after.

To me, this book was really about Abigail's growth as a woman. She begins the story as a sheltered young woman who has never left her village, always subject to and obeying her grandfather to standing up for herself and refusing to marry the villain, from striking out on her own to finally making the biggest decision of her life as a strong, independent woman. Debbie did a fantastic job of journaling Abby's development and I found myself both cheering for her and sometimes wanting to shake her.

As a matter of personal taste, I do wish Abby and Gavin had gone through some of these trials before realizing they'd fallen in love with each other but that's because I'm not a fan of insta-love.

If you love a book with twists and turns, social politics and roguish companions, give this book a try. I think you'll like it, too :)
