Publisher's summary

In this ingenious stand-alone thriller from the internationally best-selling author and “razor sharp” master of suspense (People), a grieving wife is forced to ask: Which is worse - infidelity or murder?

Ellie Falkner’s world has been destroyed. Her husband, Greg, died in a car crash - and he wasn’t alone. In the passenger seat was the body of Milena Livingstone, a woman Ellie’s never heard of. But Ellie refuses to leap to the obvious conclusion, despite the whispers and suspicions of those around her. Maybe it’s the grief, but Ellie has to find out who this woman was - and prove Greg wasn’t having an affair. And soon she is chillingly certain their deaths were no accident.

Are Ellie’s accusations of murder her way of avoiding the truth about her marriage? Or does an even more sinister discovery await her?

Lots of twists…

Good story & characters. I had a few misgivings about the plot…but at least it wasn’t predictable!

Affected narrator detracts

I would have liked this book much more with a different narrator. She was too prissy and tremulous for me, but tastes vary.

So Slow

Incredibly slow going read in a melodramatic town: This is one upon which to take a pass, as these problems worsen not improve during the course of the tale.

Below Par

The recent Nicci French books haven’t lived up to the standard set by their earlier works. This story didn’t have the painful pace and unengaging main character the House of Correction suffered under, but slogging through this story will take patience.

Flops around like a dead fish

What long drawn out drivel…these authors have been favorites in the past but this is a miss not a hit…dreary, predictable, slow paced to the point of being a sleep aid. The main character was just awful…skip unless you’re an insomniac…

A great disappointment

I love the series. But this novel was remarkably boring, tangential. I was unable to relate to the main character who was dumb as a stone. The plot dragged on. Rhis was a waste of time and money. I am annoyed at myself. I should have stopped after the first few chapters. It just droned on and on.
