“Staggeringly intimate...Taddeo spent eight years reporting this groundbreaking book.” (Entertainment Weekly)

“A breathtaking and important book.... What a fine thing it is to be enthralled by another writer’s sentences. To be stunned by her intellect and heart.” (Cheryl Strayed)

“Extraordinary.... This is a nonfiction literary masterpiece.... I can't remember the last time a book affected me as profoundly as Three Women.” (Elizabeth Gilbert)

“A revolutionary look at women's desire, this feat of journalism reveals three women who are carnal, brave, and beautifully flawed.” (People, Book of the Week)

A riveting true story about the sex lives of three real American women, based on nearly a decade of reporting.

Lina, a young mother in suburban Indiana whose marriage has lost its passion, reconnects with an old flame through social media and embarks on an affair that quickly becomes all-consuming. Maggie, a 17-year-old high school student in North Dakota, allegedly engages in a relationship with her married English teacher; the ensuing criminal trial turns their quiet community upside down. Sloane, a successful restaurant owner in an exclusive enclave of the Northeast, is happily married to a man who likes to watch her have sex with other men and women.

Hailed as “a dazzling achievement” (Los Angeles Times) and “a riveting page-turner that explores desire, heartbreak, and infatuation in all its messy, complicated nuance” (The Washington Post), Lisa Taddeo’s Three Women has captivated audiences, booksellers, and critics - and topped best seller lists - worldwide. Based on eight years of immersive research, it is “an astonishing work of literary reportage” (The Atlantic) that introduces us to three unforgettable women - and one remarkable writer - whose experiences remind us that we are not alone.

What I expected and more!

The cadence and depth of this book was incredible. I felt as if these three women were all relatable to me in some way whether positive or negative. I appreciate all their bravery in the face of major changes and shifts that affected them both directly and indirectly. This book was one of ugly truths and as a woman I enjoyed the strength I accrued just by virtue of reading.

Powerful

So impactful, powerful! Loved this book and these women. Amazingly written with beautiful but raw prose. These narrators have been my favorites by far!

strikingly honest.

this is one of those books that brought me through a myriad of emotions. parts made me cringe, parts incensed me and parts forced a couple difficult visits to my own memory. i could not put it down. i know i will read this again, but first i need a little time and distance.

Wonderfully descriptive

I especially enjoyed her amazing quality of describing and expression. I could have done without Sloan... However. I found her boring and predictable.

Wonderful and thought-provoking

This book skillfully shows the complexities of human nature. It really makes you think about circumstances in life, trauma, and how all aspects of life weave together into the present moment.

This book had many rich layers.

I enjoyed the complexities and the relatability of this story. I saw myself to some degree in each of their journies.

Couldn’t love this book more

I love the writing and stories in this book. I laughed and cried. All of these women have such amazing stories, I did not want them to end. I’m sad this book is over and I’m sitting here thinking ab each of them and what happened with their stories.

Great concept, but unnecessarily dreary

I really loved the concept of this book at first. Very interesting to go into such depth with real women and explain their private stories in such detail. After several hours of listening, though, I started to get annoyed by the drab, depressing tone. The author makes it seem like desire is only a dark and lonely thing. It would have been more appealing if she could have added a little more depth to the stories. All of these women were portrayed as lonely victims and the stories became examinations of why they were forced by men and or society into these crippling roles.

Be still my heart...

The intimate and intricate web of thought and feeling that is womanhood... painfully, precisely articulated.

Excellent

These stories are riveting and important to hear. It taught me so much about how to contextualize and think about my own overwhelming desire. Thank you for showcasing these women and allowing so many of us to feel a sense of solidarity. It really is incredible to learn the truth of “do not let others see how happy you are”. Excellent advice.
