Publisher's summary

In this age of information overload, it’s refreshing to come upon a unique voice. Osho speaks directly to you - he is speaking the truth. Osho calls Sufism a core source of wisdom in the world. In this series of nine chapters, Osho comments on Sufi stories and statements and responds to questions from his audience - which are also our questions. He talks on a vast range of topics, from personal relationships, society, death and rebirth to the ultimate experience of dissolving into the greater existence. A recurrent theme throughout several Sufi stories.

“A stream, from its source in far-off mountains, passing through every kind and description of countryside, at last reached the sands of the desert.

'At last…every consciousness reaches a point of cul-de-sac, a point which Sufis call 'the desert'. The desert is a point where you start feeling you are disappearing. The desert is a point where you feel you are dying. The desert is a point when you feel utterly hopeless, meaningless, a point where you start contemplating suicide, a point where you cannot figure it out - what to do, what not to do, to be or not to be. One day or other, every consciousness has to face the desert because without passing through the desert, you will never really be mature.” (Osho)

Words pointing to the wordless

All masters or spiritual teachers are unique, but Osho was in a class by himself. Given the context of the time of this talk, Osho was clearly ahead of his time. No master was as thoroughly versed and understanding of the various spiritual traditions as Osho. Whether he speaks on Sufism, Tantra, Tao, Zen or any of the wisdom traditions - the aim is that he speaks. It is not only the words that are captured in these talks, but also the silence of a living master (at that time). Osho says in Chapter 9 that the function of a master is to seduce you through words into taking a jump into the wordless - into no-mind, into meditation. And that is exactly what Osho does in this talk and in all his talks for that matter.

Mostly Q&A

This OSHO audio book is mostly question and answer with sannyasins. Three chapters each contain a parable and OSHO’s commentary on each parable. Two Q&A chapters follow each parable chapter.

Osho......zzzzz.....what oh yeah

This was a very hard listen. I do not know if he speaks slowly for a purpose or if it's just a way of his being. Some parts were interesting other were down right boring. If you are a dabbler you may find some spiritual gems. If you are initiated you will find this path a hard path as he is on purpose paradoxical and he has his path. Just not a path for me
