Publisher's summary

It’s true, as they say, that we can only love others when we first love ourselves and we can only experience real joy when we stop running from pain. The key to understanding these truisms lies in remaining open to life in all circumstances, and here Pema Chödrön shows us how. Because when we embrace the happiness and suffering, intelligence and confusion that are a natural part of life, we can begin to discover a wellspring of courageous love within our hearts.

one of my favorites from Pema

Not only is the book amazing, I love how the voice talent sounds so much like Pema. I'm very picky about voices. It's like Pema is speaking. Very professional, and simply perfect! Thank you!

Wow!

I am moved and am a richer human being for having spent time with Pena’s masterful way with words and explanation. Now to buy her other books.

Beautifully simplistic

Being new to the subject of meditation and Buddhism I found this quite easier to read and understand than other endeavors I attempted. Highly recommended first introduction or quick refresher on the topics of meditation and Buddhism.

So many fabulous metaphors! Loved this book!

I really enjoyed listening to this book and found the narrator's voice really calling but still engaging and found this to be a helpful book and I just finished the four agreements and I felt that there were some true similarities that made me enjoy this even more. I found all the metaphors that she gave in the book were helpful and enjoyable. Sometimes a metaphor just really sticks in my head and makes me understand things at a deeper level.

One month teaching

This book is unique in Pema Chodron, since she thought in one month retreat and every day gave a new teaching! Very powerful!

waking up

The narrator is fantastic. She brings the often gut wrenching message to life. Excellent author.

Narrator doesn't do Pema justice.

I have listened to many recordings of Pema's teaching. Her compassion, kindness, and non-judgmentalness comes through very clearly in her voice. Her voice alone makes me feel understood and safe. This narrator does the opposite of that. She adds judgmental inflections and tones where I really think Pema would not. It is really hard for me to get through listening to this. I don't want to return it bc the content is so good. I hope that anyone who listens to this also listens to some recordings of Pema's teachings so you can really catch her spirit.
