In 1885, President Grover Cleveland commissioned a special group of agents to investigate paranormal activities plaguing the nation. Unwilling to accept failure, he granted each the authority to operate outside the law. His directive was simple. No rules. No excuses. Just get it done.

Remy Kincaid, the son of a pugilist and sharpshooter, is recruited with the promise of discovering those responsible for his father’s abduction. With the help of his cynical steed, Fable, he heads to the town of Wharton, Texas, to investigate the disappearance of several young children. As clues lead him from a decrepit old house to an abandoned silver mine, he soon learns that an ancient evil is trying to release itself upon the world.

To save the town of Wharton, he will need to call upon his incredible strength and courage to fend off wicked men and beasts alike. What he doesn’t realize is that the evil is already loose. If he is to have any hope of surviving, he must be more than a man.

He must be the Watchman.

"Narrator Greg Tremblay re-creates the 1880s as President Grover Cleveland enlists Remy Kincaid, the son of carnies, to help with paranormal activities that are afflicting the American West. Listeners join Kincaid and his horse, Fable, who talks by thought speech, as they travel to Wharton, Texas, searching for kids who vanish, then reappear. Colorful descriptions of the town, its people, food, and gambling add atmosphere. Most appealing are Sheriff McCallister, who personifies the Wild West, and Fable, who advises, rebukes, and saves Kincaid in equal measure. Fascinating historical details, including a touching romance between Kincaid and the vivaciously rendered Dr. Maggie Brown, add interest. Tremblay's gripping characterizations of inhuman mutations created by mysterious experiments make for a heart-pounding listen." (AudioFile)

Fantastic story

I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the reading. I was sorry to see the book end. I wish there was more
had lots of adventure and no real dead spots. It would make a great series.

Peter Marker Meets Texas Ranger

This is the origin story of a super hero who lived in the 1800’s. Just like the radio active spider turned Peter Parker into Spiderman a mysterious power transformed Remy Kincaid into the Watchman.

A very entertaining story. I look forward to the next book. At least I hope there will be a next book.

Wonderfully crafted, unforgettable characters

What an idea to have a horse with whom to share Remy’s most private thoughts. Fable is a telepathic horse whom he loves and she is loyal, loves and protects him. The story is fast paced and with heartfelt surprises. It honors goodness and integrity. In the midst of horrible deeds, Remy is merciful and kind. He is a real hero of the kind our world needs!

Bravo Arthur! What a job you have done!!
