Publisher's summary

The Viking Spirit is an introduction to Norse mythology like no other. As you’d expect from Daniel McCoy, the creator of the endearingly popular website "Norse Mythology for Smart People", it’s written to scholarly standards, but in a simple, clear, and entertaining style that’s easy to understand and a pleasure to listen to. It includes gripping retellings of no less than 34 epic Norse myths - more than any other book in the field - while also providing an equally comprehensive overview of the fascinating viking religion of which Norse mythology was a part. You’ll learn about the vikings’ gods and goddesses, their concept of fate, their views on the afterlife, their moral code, how they thought the universe was structured, how they practiced their religion, the role that magic played in their lives, and much more. With its inclusion of the latest groundbreaking research in the field, The Viking Spirit is the ultimate introduction to the timeless splendor of Norse mythology and religion for the 21st Century.

great context for the stories of the Norse

fantastically researched, this book provides great context into the worldview of the Norse. The stories are not as engaging as others have them in the telling but do well enough to get the bones from which you can make your own broth.

positively outstanding

An outstanding scholarly View that highlights any biased opinions or "alterations" to the Myths. the writer quotes from many sources and shows in detail with as much authenticity as possible his views and discoveries into a spirituality and folklore that is so complex. it was a great read and I will definitely be buying the physical copy to add to my collection.

Great book

Incredibly well researched and presented. The author really breaks down the surviving sources by legitimacy.

Stories of a Diverse and rich people

Criticism of the use of the Christian Messia story seems misplaced. Illustrative and effective use of good Christ stories intrigued Viking peoples at the timne andd p rovide a concise and easy framework for current times.
