Publisher's summary

The throne is Valroy’s for the taking...but first, he needs a queen.

As the son of the Morrigan and heir to the vacant Unseelie throne, Valroy itches to shed the mantle of prince and take his place as king. To his great regret one ancient tradition stands in his way, demanding he first take a bride. With all the members of the Unseelie court proving to be insufferable, what is a prince to do?

Steal a human, of course.

Abigail often wonders if the townsfolk aren’t right in calling her cursed. Abandoned by her husband and with no family to call her own, everything in her life hangs by a thread. Never did she expect her downfall would come by taking pity on an old hermit. Abducted into the dangerous world of Tir n’Aill, Abigail is thrust into a terrifying Maze that defies all logic. There, she finds herself at the mercy of an Unseelie prince with a strange offer—solve his Maze and he'll grant her deepest wish....

If she can live that long.

From author Kathryn Ann Kingsley comes this tantalizing slow-burn dark fantasy that proves sometimes the line between love and hate is razor-thin.

Waiting for the next book!

Narration was really distracting at the beginning but did get better (or maybe I just got used to it). I didn't like the litling phrasing that often didn't match what the phrasing should be grammatically. I did enjoy the narrator for the voice of Valroy however.

The story itself is very steamy without ever really satisfying the reader and you are left wanting more. I want the next book! I liked the ending but really was hoping for something more between the characters. I loved it and yet I find myself also annoyed at the same time.

Book is good, not a fan of the narrator

Im still not sure how I feel about this book. It was a bit of a tease and kinda just went in circles. Hopefully book 2 is better. Also, voice actor made Valroy sound like a pompous jerk.

Eh

I am not a fan of DNFing books so I forced myself to finish this one. I had a very tough time with how this bounces from third person POV to then characters POV but only of their thoughts. The only reason this got 3 instead of 2 stars was I did like the ending quite a bit. The narrator is definitely not my favorite. I don’t think I’ll be reading the rest of this series but we’ll see.

Decent book, terrible narrator

The voice of the narrator was so exaggerated at times that it almost was painful to continue listening to. The accent of the narrator made it hard to distinguish between characters when he tried to go back and forth.

Adult Fae Fairy Tale + Joel Leslie!!!! 🔥

Just a guess, but I'd wager the people who didn't like the narrator aren't big LGBTQ+ Fantasy fans! It's freaking Joel Leslie, only the best M/M narrator ever!!! Maybe the LGBTQ fans just have better taste? I can't think of another reason for the negative reviews.

Also, this is some *DARK* sh*t. But also the best surprise 🤗. It's like I'm reading a Sylvia Mercedes Fae series and enjoying the hell out of her A+ writing skills with all the consistent character building, creative plots, and conflict unrelated to misunderstandings that one conversation would have resolved, but the best part of this book is it's for adults!!! 🔥

It has all the steam and darker elements not found in Sylvia Mercedes' books. Don't get me wrong, I love those books but I can't help but feel disappointed every time a highly- anticipated romantic encounter fades to black or we discover that the MMC had altruistic reasons for being a jerk all along instead of actually being complex and fond of torturing child traffickers in his basement for fun. So glad I took a chance on this one!

Well that was different

and very enjoyable. I'm not usually into all the rage of fae romances lately, but Kathryn Ann Kingsley has done it again with her masterful storytelling. I couldn't put this one on pause, and yet I tried to prolong it because the full series isn't yet available in audiobooks, and the narrator does such a fantastic job. I do have the full ebook series, so I'm diving into it immediately while imagining the narrator's voice reading the rest with me.

Predator and Prey

I love this entire series. Some people have said the narrator isn’t great but to be honest I personally love the voice he does for Valroy and the way he slurs a little for Anfar.
You’ll hate Valroy before this first book is over, but he does a bit of a turn around before the end - if not in the way you may expect. If you have a thing for predator/prey dynamics, this is the series for you. It ties off very nicely by the third book.

Good book

It’s good once you get past the narrator. I really enjoyed it but his voice made me sleepy.
