A funny satire on supervillains!

This was a lot better than I expected it to be. It really does read a bit like a handbook, and each chapter is teaching a young villain things not to mess up, such as names or how to build your base. It doesn't take itself seriously and make a lot of jokes about the stereotypes of the evil villain. really well done.

The performance was great as well. The narrator used a deep villainy voice and kind of talked down to the audience, which worked really well.

Worth your time, and anyone that is into super power book will get a kick out if it. Recommended.

Terrific Short Funny Listen

This is a how to book about becoming a supervillain and is filled with hilarious quips and anecdotes. The animosity towards heroes and the bios of failed villains had me literally laughing aloud and even garnered a few knee slaps. I mostly picked this up as a way to pass time for a couple of days until my new credits arrived, but it turned out to be 3 hours of highly entertaining audio.

Richard Allen was amazing! The over-the-top evil overlord voice was absolutely perfect for this book. He truly captured the character of King Oblivion. His changes in pace, pitch, volume, and tone were delivered with textbook professionalism. He also transitioned into a smaller, snarky voice for the bios and historical references. This distinction between roles accentuated the different roles of each persona. This is the first time I have heard him perform but I plan to seek out more of his work.

The ending alone is worth the purchase price.

PROs:
Phenomenal narration.
Practical and actionable information.
User friendly format.

CONS:
Listeners are cautioned to beware that this is not a Master Class. Why would you expect a world dominating evil overlord to allow you to master villainy?

Nonetheless I have interpolated a set of fundamental principles I can build upon to enhance my mischief making and ensure all my gain is ill gotten. I would have liked more guidance on finding my nemesis. It is so difficult for me to meet people. I mean people who have a life expectancy above room temperature.

Humorous and Fun, But...

Overall The Supervillains' Handbook is hilarious. The author clearly knows his comics, and offers some tongue in cheek commentary on a few of the humorously absurd aspects and cliches. The style is technical enough to maintain the "flavor" of an instructive text, but varied enough to be engaging. The content is completely entertaining.

In fact my only qualm comes from the narration. For the most part it is both fun and fitting, really sounding like a classic deep voiced supervillain monologuing at you, but then sometimes in inexplicably changes. The switch back and forth was distracting.

Other than that, however, I truly enjoyed this book. In fact, even that wasn't enough to tally bother me--I just told myself the normal voice was a henchman assigned to assist his villainous boss, then moved on-- because the book was just so much fun. My fellow geeks, I definitely recommend this one. If you're a fan of comics, The Supervillains' Handbook wil delight you.

Essential guide to supervillainy

Required reading for every mega bad guy or gal. Every evil overlord must read this book. It is the most important document to be reading. It is especially serious to listen to for all megalomaniacs and would be world dominators. Truly inspired even at 2x speed.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I, Mojo Jojo, have a town to take over. I have a world to conquer. I have to seize control of an area and force its inhabitants to follow my way of thinking.

Amusing short book

It sounds mostly like an ad for a school but amusing none the less. I loved it and Mr Allen, the narrator really sells it!!
