Publisher's summary

Intrepid baker and erstwhile investigator Corinna Chapman returns triumphantly in her first adventure in seven years.

Corinna Chapman, baker extraordinaire, talented sleuth, stalwart friend and lover is back!

When a distraught Scottish veteran from Afghanistan is knocked unconscious, waking up to find his beloved ex-service dog missing, Corinna and her lover, Daniel, find themselves inextricably drawn into the machinations of a notorious underworld gang of drug runners.

Corinna and Daniel need to pull together all the strings to find the connections between their wandering Scottish veteran, his kidnapped dog, a student dramatic society that's moved into Corinna's building, burglaries and the threatening notes that begin to mysteriously appear in Corinna's apartment.

Between her forays into danger, there is still time in Corinna's life for tender encounters as the delicious aromas of newly baked breads, muffins and treats waft out of Corinna's bakery, Earthly Delights.

Kind of a silly story and I miss the old narrator

Definitely my least favorite Corrina Chapman. Weird religious themes, unlikely danger high jinx. The new narrator really sealed the deal, I’m sure she is fine but all the voices were really, really off.

great story but

the narrator was a disappointment, she made Corinna shrewish and hard rather than the warm generous but weary soul she is . she also read it like she was in a race which meant I kept losing my place and had to go back to pick up details missed in her rush to finish.

Another solid entry in Corinna Chapman series

Corinna and Daniel's latest case is finding a lost dog. Alasdair, an Aghanistan Vet from Scotland, has PTSD soothed mainly by the companionship of his explosive-sniffing dog, Georgie. Because Alasdair trained Georgie using Gaelic commands, the dog was mustered out with him. But someone hit Alasdair on the head and stole Geordie. A second mystery concerns a girl in a wheelchair; her sister was killed, but since the event the girl is unable to walk or speak. Additionally there have been several breakins at the apartment-house by several different perpetrators. The tenants catch the first one clearly searching for something in Professor Monk's apartment. Before the police arrive and seal off the area, Corinna appropriates the professor's notes so he can continue working on his manuscript after the scene of the crime is off-limits. Corinna herself corners another intruder and acquits herself admirably with a folded umbrella (she excelled at fencing in school) until she rips off his mask and finds no face underneath (just another mask) making her lose concentration... As usual, all the mysteries are wrapped up neatly

At one point in the book, Corinna, Daniel, and Alasdair break into a compound to steal back Geordie, but when they try to get away all hell breaks lose. There is shooting, and there are explosions. Then there is Corinna's friendly but stern neithborhood policewoman. This section includes a brief but interesting editorial explaining that in Australia only certain police can fire guns because they wouldn't want the police banging away at citizens on a whim -- and that this is regardless of amendment...

Dog

Good book. Very entertaining and educational. The characters and storyline mesh so easy with each which makes a great book.

Corinna #7 ok by me

I love Corinna and her tales to date so was delighted when my sister texted news about this one. I was a bit thoughtful over a couple of negative review points but dived in anyway.
At first I too found the new voice all 'wrong' but an hour or two in I hardly noticed and by the end I was perfectly content with Jennifer's performance. particularly her Corinna; while other characters balanced out some being much better others rather the opposite.
I enjoyed the characters, setting and cats as usual and found the plot pretty much in Kerry's usual Corinna style, a bit over the top but well woven into the Australian setting. I really like her presentation of social issues and poking at community standards/ norms.
I came out of my listening feeling good and satisfied with this book.

Fine story

I did miss last Louise Siverson, the original narrator but Ms Vuletic was fine. The plot was twisty and interesting with several false leads

I need the old narrator

It’s so different with this new narrator. Just not the same. Please bring back the woman from the earlier books!

What happened?

I love this author & have been a long time fan of this series - I did not even check to see if the narrator had changed I was so happy to see the new addition to the series. The new Narrator (who I'm sure must have done other super narrations) has ruined this series
* Names are being mispronounced including Corrina's
*Accents are thicker and not as melodic
*When did Goss become a kiwi?

It all left me very confused and now much more vigilant with what I spend my credits on.
