Publisher's summary

Some stains don't come out....

Raised in a household so filthy it was stomach-spilling, Vera involuntarily evolved into a neat freak. Upon discovering she and her disabled husband, Daniel, are expecting, she needs fast cash.

Her obsession with cleanliness sprouts the concept that her skills can be put to use in a unique way. She takes a stab at the booming door-to-door vacuum sales business of 1988.

All is going well until she arrives at the steps of a house that will change her forever. The steps of an evil that resurrects the ghastly memories she so desperately tried to wash away.

Nothing will prepare you for the nastiness, disorder, and sickening horror brought forth by...the Slob. The Slob has received critical praise and as a result has been nominated for the 2021 Splatterpunk Awards!

I feel dirty-like I’ve participated in something illegal

Well…ummm - IDK what to say about this one. It started out nice and innocent enough. Then BAM! All hell breaks loose. I don’t think any “normal” sane person could even begin to imagine the depravity that begins this woman’s torture. It’s not that it’s a bad book…it’s just a bit too much over the top containing the most disgusting violations that I felt dirty listening. It was like I was participating in something borderline illegal. I liked the wrap up and ending. However, I don’t think I’ll be listening to the Son of the Slob.

Disgusting but tasteful

It was so incredibly hard to listen to yet hard not to hear more of the story, as a mother myself it was especially hard to listen to the part with the dumbbell ….. will be listening to more books

It's ok.

Tries a wee bit too hard but it's a decent bit of fiction. The Narrator really takes this one from a two star to a three. She does a very good job with what's here. It's not really horror in my opinion.

Was going to vomit

The description of the violence inflicted was so well visualized I thought at some points I might vomit!!! Well done… from one author to another….

Beware! This book is mondo effed up!

This is probably the most disturbing novella I’ve read in a long time. The physical horror the protagonist goes through is beyond description in this review. I can’t imagine what the narrator went through reading this. But Aron Beauregard is a brilliant writer and The Slob will give you nightmares for weeks! Definitely not for the faint of heart, but if you’re a hardcore horror fan, this is the book for you.

I've been having a really tough time in the last few months finding anyting to read or listen to that keeps my interest. I have at least a dozen titles started but I can never make it past the first few chapters without losing interest.... Until now! Facebook it's simply great

absolutely loved it!

so I didn't listen to it but my fiance did. I read the physical book at the same time. he said the narrator was perfect. he kept going on about how great it was when she said "shit covered finger" lol. anyway, the story is great. I had to put it down for a bit when dessert was served but that's what I was looking for when I picked this book up. I don't get grossed out easily and I love that this book wrecked me lol. here is an actual text from my fiance while he's listening at work.

"'The smell of the hot fecal air invaded my sinus.' That's fucking beautiful writing"

A great character driven extreme horror story

I previously read Playground, and it's a very high standard. This is the 2nd Aron Beauregard novel I've read/listened to. I was apprehensive because it's brief length VS price, with my membership discount it's $9, but it's under 4 hours long, it's about half the price on Kindle. But after listening to it, I'd say it's worth it.

The same narrator from Playground is on this book, and she did the sequel Son Of The Slob. She's phenomenal, while The Slob has a very small cast of characters, she still gives everyone a distinct voice and really puts a lot of acting ability into the reading.

What I've learned from how the author writes, character comes first. In this book, it's a lot about establish the protagonist, whom the entire story is told through her pov, almost like a memoir. We learn about her life, from childhood in a filthy home and what made her obsessed with cleaning, to where she cleans for a livid. It takes it's time before the horror kicks in full throttle and doesn't let up until the final chapter.

While the main character has plenty of depth and she's written so well that you absolutely will emphasize with her, there isn't a name or back story to the Slob, he's a deranged serial killer living in absolute filth, very much like your classic slasher such as Leatherface. He's just the embodiment of evil and disgust.

I wasn't sure what to make of the plot from the description, but the short version is a pregnant woman gets a new job selling vacuums door to door and winds up trapped in a crime scene and held captive by a maniac. What happens to her are a series of events as morally depraved and revolting as the human mind can come up with.

The story is very disgusting and goes into great detail on every unpleasant image and you were warned, it's not for sensitive readers. I'll be looking forward to hearing the sequel, when I feel like a new horror story.
