Hugo Award winner for Best Series

Through one of the gates, a colony stands alone. Their supplies are low. Their defenses, weak. The leadership is uncertain and the community fragile. Huge alien beasts threaten the little they have left.

But the worst monsters are human, and the greatest dangers are the past they brought.

This should spawn its own series.

The story, rhythm, and character interaction in this novella is what made the expanse so amazing. The last couple of novels seemed watered down, but this brings it back to life. Please don't let this universe die.

Great story

Great story in the Expanse universe. The ending leaves room for continuation of the story.

It Feels Lived In

This one was so good, I immediately wished there was more as soon as I finished. Performance was great as always, and the story is intrigued me. James S. A. Corey knows how setup a universe, and help it feel alive with a variety of stories that can happen anywhere with any character. This is another one of those enriching stories.

Brilliant

This is a brilliant short story that transcends escapist sci-fi adventure and says something interesting and profound about human nature. A fitting closing chapter to a great series—but I still hope there’s more to come.

Is this the Icing on the cake?

Best of all the novellas (so far) this one really leaves you wanting more and proves why these writers are in a league of their own, Trying not to follow in our fathers misguided footsteps is something many can relate to is the theme in the background of this story, fighting monsters both human and alien while surviving on a harsh planet cut off from the universe is in the foreground of this story, It ends just where you think a new story should begin!

and of course Jefferson Mays is great as always

I like that this itch was scratched

Good to know what happened to Phillip as well as have a slight idea of how colonies might fare.

Incomplete

More like the first couple chapters of an unfinished book. The ending was left very open. Otherwise, it was good.
