Publisher's summary

From the New York Times best-selling author of The Wrong Man and Eyes on You comes a harrowing new psychological thriller about a successful self-help author who suddenly finds her life spiraling dangerously out of control.

What would you do if you realized that your new husband, a man you adore, is keeping secrets from you - secrets with terrifying consequences?

Bryn Harper, an accomplished self-help author, already has plenty to deal with. She's still recovering from a devastating car accident that has left her haunted by recurring, smoke-filled nightmares. Worse still, she can't shake the ominous feeling her dreams contain a warning.

In the beginning Bryn's husband, Guy, couldn't have been more supportive. But after moving into a new house together, disturbing incidents occur, and Guy grows evasive, secretive. What the hell is going on? she wonders. Then, a woman hired to cater their dinner party is brutally murdered.

As Bryn's world unravels - and yet another woman in town is slain - she must summon her old strength to find answers and protect her own life. Her nightmares may in fact hold the key to unlocking the truth and unmasking the murderer.

With unexpected, riveting twists, The Secrets You Keep is an utterly compelling psychological thriller that once again showcases Kate White's extraordinary storytelling talent.

Overall a good read

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I was sucked in and had a hard time taking breaks from listening. The reader did a good job performing the characters, and she had a voice that wasn't annoying to listen to. My only real gripe isn't a real problem I guess. I just feel like the author prepped me for a huge climax and the way it played out didn't hold to that expectation. I'm not complaining, and I don't feel it was a bad ending. I just feel slightly let down by the lack of dramatics. But again, I really enjoyed the book and I'm glad I read it. I would read more by this author.

Exciting read, but could have used a better narrator

The first 1/3 of the book was slow, but the remainder was so good, it redeemed itself. I enjoyed the characters, the twists and turns, and the ending. However, I almost returned the book many times during the first hour. The narrator’s voice was like nails on a chalkboard to me.

Some Good Some Not So Good

This audiobook was pretty good, but not the best. I liked the narrator's performance. The storyline was unrealistic at times. For one, it seemed unusual that Brin trusted a stranger, Sandra, who just showed up on her doorstep but didn't trust most of the colleagues her own husband invited for dinner. Also, who impulsively drives to a crime scene after being so shaken from seeing a previous murder victim? The husband's character fell flat for me and it was difficult to see his two extremes as a doting husband and a womanizing cheater. I liked the storyline about Brin and Paul's car accident and the slow unveiling of what actually happened. I also liked that Brin healed and gained back her confidence throughout the story.

Decent mystery

What did you like best about this story?

I liked that there were many characters in the story so it didn't make it too obvious as to what to look for.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes, her narration was good but her accent aggravated me. It was almost that teenage accent where the word "friends" becomes "frunds".

Any additional comments?

This story followed along the lines of a good Lifetime movie, and I was entertained by it. There were some questions left unanswered though, so if you're the type who noticed every detail in a book, this may bother you. The ending could have been more dramatic too -it felt hurried. The main character's paranoia may be irritating at times, but it does help move the story along.

ok book

Started off interesting but took a boring turn. The story was way too long. I wish she would have focused on the car crash

Not the worst book

The most suspenseful part of this book is waiting for the suspenseful part. Even when the MC is getting chased by the murderer, it is over before it gets good. Not terrible but not great either..

Great puzzler.

I liked the suspense and the guessing back and forth about who the murder was. The only problem with the book was how her thought process kept guessing at every event that occurred. Other then that I would highly recommend it. The narrator was excellent and the overall mystery was great. I'd recommend it to anyone who loves who done its and thinks they can always guess the ending. I'm good at that but was wrong this time. J. C.
