FOLLOW THE RULES!!

This was such a fun book to listen to! All those times as a kid on highways and seeing things like a single shoe on the side of the road always triggered my imagination. Lol, but it was never anything as terrifying as what's in this book! A great listen, narration was amazing!!

Did the book justice

I recently finished reading the eBook version of The Rules of the Road and was instantly taken in by the immersive storytelling. Each story has its own unique flavor but is still tied together into the same cohesive story with the help of Buck Hensley.
The narrators did a great job of portraying each section and I really loved the portrayal of Buck. Rafael Marmol also plays a great asshole... I mean, he is playing one... right? right??? I was worried that it might be too jarring having each story be a different narrator and that the differences in sound might take you out of the story. That was definitely not the case, though. Everything was very well edited and of high quality.
So this is definitely a great way to take in the story, but you have to ask yourself... once you hear the rules spoken by Buck you have to follow them, don't you?
Well done, everybody!

Intertwined Short Stories

I'm not usually one for short stories, but these are all related and intertwined. Each story revolves around a different rule of the road which much be followed by the person hearing it directly from Buck Hensley. No worries, it's okay we are hearing the rules since Buck isn't speaking directly to us. But I can say I will never look at a random shoe on the road the same ways again and IF I ever see a speed limit sign for 67 MPH I'm doing to be totally freaked out. Great full cast and definitely a fun listen.

Cool Story

I found this book to be a fun read, cool story, and some seriously creepy parts.

The Rules of the Road is a wonderfully horrific and creepy twist on rules many of us grew up following on road trips. It’ll make you think twice about following every rule you hear as if Buck Hensley is coming to you live while you’re listening.

Highly recommend listening to this while on road trips, or long work drives. It really heightened the experience, especially when the rules were syncing up with my driving life one day. Heckin’ creeped me out! It was perfect!

Fun urban legend short stories

I was surprised I enjoyed this book as much as I did. The short story format was fun and engaging. The characters were fleshed out and fun. The connecting story line is also well done.

One Hell Of A Ride

I've been a fan of horror and especially horror narrations for a long time. While I can't outright say I've come across any I truly dislike, it takes a special story to leave a true impact on me. The kind I find myself thinking about in the dead of the night, wondering what I'd do in those characters' shoes. This is such a story. I'd been following it before and I can say this is definitely worth a purchase with a narration cast that's easy on the ears and a story that reels you in. Once you begin, all I can say is buckle up because you're in for one hell of a ride.

Well worth the time and Credit

I enjoyed this very much. My only *nitpicks* is that some of the acting / reading was kind of wooden and lacking in emotion. But being that no one read alone for very long made it tolerable, and that apparently some people are not very familiar with how to pronounce the names of towns or locations, (the worst two offenses being "Des Moines" (pronouncing both the "S"s which are silent) and Mount Sinai (pronounced "Sigh-knee-I" in ROTR rather than "Sigh-nigh") from the Bible. (This one being particularly grievous, because the character is supposed to be "Well churched" and the reader is clearly not.)
I know I'm being picky but these were actually really jarring. Otherwise the book is fun and the recording is enjoyable.

For Your Own Sake, Follow the Rules of the Road.

Howdy folks, I'm not Buck Hensley, and these are not "The Rules of Road." However, this is undoubtedly a review for the gleefully fun and horrifying, The Rules of the Road by C.B. Jones. If I could broadcast this review into the airwaves, I certainly would.

This collection/anthology of tales centers around a mysterious radio broadcast from the aforementioned Buck Hensley. Although, it doesn't always have to be a radio broadcast. It can be through a CD player, a cell phone, or whatever other means of communication is available. Upon hearing this broadcast, the folksy, butter-voiced, and poetic Buck Hensley provides the unfortunate (sometimes fortunate) protagonists with a set of rules to follow while on the road. God forbid you don't follow Buck's rules. The consequences can be worse than death. And to that I say...fair enough.

C.B. Jones writes a super impressive and incredibly entertaining set of stories centered around the concept of these mysterious radio broadcasts. More so, these stories capture and convey the gritty atmosphere of traveling through America's heartland, and the isolation one feels while traveling on the road. The mystery, intrigue, and circumstances in each tale held my interest throughout and made me want to continue reading the book from cover to finish. The characters in each account were well-written to the point where I was fully invested in their stories and wanted to continue following their path even after the conclusion of their stories.

Having read this book and then listening to the audiobook version, I would recommend giving the audiobook a shot as the full-cast performances were excellent. Each narrator brought their character to life in a wonderful and believable way. It certainly brings a different angle to the novel hearing it read with different voices.

Allow me to misquote the eternally memorable words of Buck Hensley, "Stay alert. Stay lively. Stay lonely. Once again, this is my review for The Rules of the Road by C.B. Jones, and this book is a must-buy."

Good Fun… a little too over the top.

A very light listen (read). Has a number of gems, but overall the stores are a bit silly. The narrator is good, but the main antagonist, is too comical, like a tired SNL skit. That said, it was fun.
