Publisher's summary

Four brand-new horror novellas from "a modern-day Algernon Blackwood" all about books, stories, manuscripts—the written word has never had sharper teeth . . .

BOOKS CAN BE DEADLY

In The Skin of Her Teeth, a cursed novel drives people to their deaths.

A delivery job turns deadly in The Dark Brothers' Last Ride.

In This Book Belongs to Olo, a lonely child has dangerous control over an usual pop-up book.

A choose-your-own adventure game spirals into an uncanny reality in The Story.

Full of creepy suspense, these collected novellas are perfect for fans of Paul Tremblay, Stephen King, and Joe Hill.

My new favorite author of horror

This is a series of 4 separate horror stories. I love a good horror story that unwinds as the story goes along then the end comes and you’re left feeling like you just woke up from a nightmare. This author has a great imagination. I’m a new fan.

A Sophisticated Collection of Horror

This is my first Ronald Malfi book. Recommended by a friend, I decided to give him a whirl. I must say, this was different from the horror I typically read/listen to. I felt this storytelling had a "sophisticated" vibe. The stories were less about "shock and awe" and more about building a solid plot rich with psychological conflict and terror, sprinkled with a healthy dose of impending dread, and topped off with a layer of vile predators.

In the four stories, Mr. Malfi stretches his brilliant writing style into 4 different psychological thrillers that don't just lead you into a mental frenzy, but those thrillers tendril into sheer menacing horror as the stories twist elegantly into tales of heart pumping fear.

I enjoyed this book at a deeper level. Paired with a very good reading performance (I listened to this on Audible), this book is a great offering for more thought provoking horror. I recommend this to those ready to cross into thrillers and horror or anyone looking for a break from slasher, monster, and extreme horror books.

I’m a huge malfi fan

However, this book was really different from his others. Some of the stories were great but a couple others were not so interesting to me. I will still look forward to his next book! The narrator did a great job.

Love it!

Each one of these stories is a diamond. They’re exciting, mysterious, the writing is beautiful yet easy to follow, and they’re well read. I’m a fan.

Remember Reading King's "Different Seasons?"

Yeah, this took me back to the first time that I read Stephen King's "Different Seasons." Ronald Malfi's themed quartet of novellas are incredibly well-written and disturbing with a literary vein that runs through each. You get the creepy kid vibe with "This Book Belongs to Olo." Beware the clown mask, clip on tie and construction paper and crayons. My favorite was "The Dark Brother's Last Ride" where I was reminded of Tarantino and Clooney fighting vampires in the movie "Dusk Til Dawn." I loved the story and hope that it makes it's way to Netflix.

"Skin of Her Teeth" is a vengeful ghost story that answers the question, 'yes, stories can be haunted.' It took a little while to get there but the final consumption by the story is fulfilling.

The final story, appropriately called "The Story" is like the author is peeling an onion. I loved Choose Your Own Adventure books, but always kept a digit in the page I didn't choose in case I didn't like the outcome. The characters don't have that luxury in "The Story." No matter what path is chosen, there is not good ending. Just the end.

I first read Ronald Malfi's "December Park" a good coming-of-age story and "Night Parade." I highly recommend his work. Very good stuff.

4 strong novellas - books about books

I LOVED IT! Ronald Malfi does not disappoint in this short-story collection. There are 4 novella-length books inside this cover and each is a strong, open and close story. Books are the theme in this collection of horror, mystery and thriller/suspense, and Ghostwritten is the PERFECT title. I labeled each one my favorite, until I read the next one. They just kept getting better.

Audiobook narration by Joe Hempel was excellent as always. He always adds value to the Ronald Malfi experience.
