Publisher's summary

Ambitious Daily Sentinel journalist Lauren King is chaffing on LA’s vapid social circuit, reporting on glamorous A-list parties while sparring with her rival - the formidable, icy Catherine Ayers. Ayers is an ex-Washington political correspondent who suffered a humiliating fall from grace, and her acerbic, vicious tongue keeps everyone at bay. Everyone, that is, except knockabout Iowa girl King, who is undaunted and unimpressed and gives as good as she gets.

One night a curious story unfolds before their eyes: one political launch, 34 prostitutes and a palette of missing pink champagne. Can the warring pair work together to unravel an incredible story?

This is a lesbian fiction with more than a few mysterious twists.

Romance + Mystery + Suspenseful Moments

Another great one by Lee Winter, love her ice queens! I thought I couldn’t fall for another one but I sure did. Story really picks up in Chapter 2. Can’t wait to get lost in more of Winter’s stories. Victoria Mei did a great narration.

Enjoyed the story, but…

The narrator sounded like Samantha from Sex and the City, which made every character sound like a version of her. That could be a good thing, or not so great… depending on how much you liked Samantha. She kinda grew on me towards the very end.
I liked Winter’s other books better… Requiem for Immortals, Hotel Queens, Brutal Truth, Awkward Truth.

Ice queen and country hack

I did not think Lee could produce another winner but she did it again. Writing with knowledge about a subject she knows so well. The concept of this work was truly beautiful and heartwarming. The narration though I was dubious at the beginning grew on me as it progressed and by the end I was all in.

Loved it

Few writers make me laugh out loud. Lee Winters is one. The dialogue is realistic and makes the characters live and breathe in the reader’s mind long after the story is done. If you pass up this book I’m here to offer my sympathy for what you’ve missed.
I have to get the mental image of someone being as “antsy as a horse climbing stairs” out of my mind now. Dr. Pepper keeps shooting out of my nose at inopportune moments when I think about it. 🤣

So good

I loved every second of this story. It had a nice balance of suspense and romance. Will definitely read again.

Loved it!!!!

This was really well written and such a delight to read. I was so intrigued with the scandal that I forgot this was also a love story. Both of the main characters were great although I would love to have a prequel of Catherine’s story. This was my first book by Lee Winter and I will definitely be reading more. And as for Victoria Mei, her narration was wonderful! #lovedit #journalism #lgbtqa+ #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

Stand by for the first hour. Great book.

I am not kidding. This book started pretty slow and I actually glanced at my phone and saw an hour had passed and I still wasn’t invested in the story. I love Lee Winter and my patience definitely paid off. This is one entertaining, witty and clever book. Not my favorite from winter (requiem😍) but definitely great book. I wish this author had a larger inventory. The best in the business for sure.

The narrator is not my favorite but the story is great despite it.

On to the sequel 👌🏽

Wish I read this sooner

I’ve been putting off reading this book for so long for no particular reason. It was so good, I loved the plot and usually I’m not even a “plot” person, I just live for the romance, but the plot in this book had me intrigued and invested. The slow burn romance was also great of course but for the first time it’s not the only thing I praise

Another good one

I just finished listening to this one, the choice of Victoria Mei as narrator was brilliant. Her ice queen Catherine Ayers felt impossible to melt, and her Lauren King was spot on. I totally dig this book and can't wait to here the sequel. If at all possible I say have Victoria Mei narrate the sequel as well. She brings those charters to life and gives them full bodies and feelings.
