Publisher's summary

“No disguise could cloak her beauty and therein was unspeakable danger.”

Princess Vivien's idyllic life is shattered when Saxons invade her sire’s kingdom. So long had the Selgovaeans enjoyed peace they are ill prepared and are quickly conquered by the barbarians, her father slain. Alone, Vivien is forced to flee to the hidden sanctuary of The Mountain. Her journey is extremely perilous as the Saxons search out every road and trail, seeking to capture the princess and obtain a vital secret that she possesses. To evade her enemies, she must rely on wit, cunning, and the help of the enigmatic sage, the Immortal Hawk.

Destined for a purpose far greater than she can imagine, Vivien is empowered to establish a realm of unearthly majesty, where warriors are secretly trained as skilled and chivalrous knights. The sage, known by his foes as the Magician, foretells of the rise of young Arthur, a resistance fighter who will raise an army of knights, defeat the invaders, and be crowned High King of Britannia. Yet these prophecies are dependent on Vivien, her men-of-war, the secret she guards with her life, and above all else, the inspiration of her love.

The Princess of Selgovae and the High King is a thrilling tale of adventure, magic, romance, and destiny, set against the backdrop of ancient Britain. Fans of epic fantasy and historical fiction will be swept away by this tale of a young princess who risks everything to save her kingdom and fulfill her destiny.

So Much Excitement and Fun!

Very original ideas wound into old known details of King Arthur. Super fun and fanciful.
The reading was superb and definitely enhanced the story! ❤️❤️❤️
I highly recommend this book!! You will enjoy the antics of Rene and his horse, they are hysterical!
I have absolutely no regrets about spending time with this book.
The author claims to be blending factual characters with fiction, and that is definitely fun!
However, this is a children’s bedtime story. I thoroughly enjoyed the story, but will not continue with the following books.

Marvelous work of genius

From the beginning I was spellbound. There aren’t many works that can capture my imagination and hold it as this did. I found myself looking forward to putting on my Bluetooth and listening to the next chapter(s) with great anticipation. Bryce weaves goodness and eternal truths expertly into a compelling story I could scarcely put down until the end, which I did not want to encounter, in spite of knowing it had to come!

Enjoyable

I struggled with the first half of the book, but things picked up in the second half and I enjoyed it. For the first half, the narrator often felt more like he was narrating a nature documentary. The narrating was better the second half, but still not my favorite.

Insightful and intriguing

Very interesting to learn the literary history of internal conflicts in the rise of Great Britain; and the heroic stories of King Arthur and Has nights of the roundtable. I was also intrigued with the reference to Joseph of Arimathea visiting Britania; gospel principles intertwined with the valor and integrity of great warriors. Bryce Gibby is a masterful writer; very descriptive, I felt like I was watching a movie. Hoping for a sequel!!

Fantastic book!

"The Princess of Selgovae and the High King" was wonderfully written and narrated. Arthurian legends are always a favorite but this went above and beyond a good story. Written in an old world style and feel, the author, Bryce Gibby, presented King Athur and Vivian, the Lady of the Lake, in a more realistic, yet with higher morals than any legend of King Arthur I've ever read. I loved that! This is the Arthur that I want to win the day. This is the Vivian that I can root for and try to emulate. Their love story is beautiful. Their success and failures become real to me in this book. This is the truest good verses evil.
Of course, the narrator, Michael Troughton did an amazing job bringing them to life for me! His voice was perfect and his pronunciation of the old names of Briton and Saxony was as smooth and fluid as to enhance my visit to King Arthur's world. The perfect voice actor for this story.
I wish our family had this while the kids were homeschooling. This would've been a great addition to the History of Britain unit.

Bardic Richness

This re-telling of an ancient story captures a flavor of storytelling that itself evokes mythic history - very appropriate for the tale itself. The style is formal to the modern ear and it’s pacing is unhurried which adds an interesting anticipation to the scenes of tension and intrigue. All the elements unfold wonderfully; romance, treachery, statecraft, battle, personal turmoil, mysticism and flashes of humor.
We’ve all encountered this legend in other forms and from other perspectives. This narration feels as if it is told fireside after a feast in a great hall.

Great book to read, even better to listen.

“I greatly enjoyed reading ‘A Tetralogy of Tales,’ but Michael Troughton brings to my mind an entirely different perspective. As a fast reader, I often skip rapidly through the pages. Michael’s attention to detail, his emphasis on speaking every word distinctly and with impressive clarity, slows the pace down so that I understand the meaning of things that I entirely missed before. I’ve never enjoyed an audio book so much! I laugh out loud with Rene’s antics. The suspense is off the scale and the romance is delightful!. The detail and description in each of the myriad adventures are amazing!
