Publisher's summary

Vanity Fair Royals correspondent and bestselling author of William and Harry and Kate explores the remarkable life and reign of Queen Elizabeth II and the legacy she has handed down after her death to the next generation.

For seventy years, Queen Elizabeth ruled over an institution and a family. During her lifetime she was constant in her desire to provide a steady presence and to be a trustworthy steward of the British people and the Commonwealth. In the face of her uncle’s abdication, in the uncertainty of the Blitz, and in the tentative exposure of her family and private life to the public via the press, Elizabeth became synonymous with the crown.

But times change. Recent years have brought grief and turmoil to the House of Windsor, and even as England celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, there were calls for a changing of the guard.

In The New Royals, journalist Katie Nicholl provides a nuanced look at Elizabeth’s remarkable and unrivalled reign, with new stories from Palace courtiers and aides, documentarians, and family members. She examines King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla’s decades in waiting and beyond—where “The Firm” is headed as William and Kate present the modern faces of an ancient institution. In the wake of Harry and Meghan leaving the Royal Family and Prince Andrew’s spectacular fall from grace, the royal family must reckon with its history, the light and the dark, in order to chart a course for Britain beyond its Queen and to show that it is an institution capable of leadership in an ever-changing modern world.

Fair and unbiased book

Very fair, in my opinion. This book is an unbiased telling of the past (Katie laid a nice foundation) as well as more current events. It is a very bittersweet description of the late Queen and the way she balanced her job and family. This was a very enjoyable, non-toxic account and predition of what would very soon after be set in motion. The audio book reader was perfect! Best wishes to the author, the people of the UK, King Charles III and all of his family and extended family who are still learning life without such a constant, graceful figure- The Queen Elizabeth II...

Where’s Katie?

I would have enjoyed it if Katie Nicholl had done the reading. She has a lovely voice. The many references to a fictional Netflix series is very annoying and makes me not take this piece of work seriously. I'm sorry. I wish I could return the book and get back my credit.

Easy to listen to review of how the Royal Family was positioned at the end of the Queens life.

NEEDS AN UPDATE

Palpably outdated. Revision critical. Predictions from author have played out dramatically in error. Harry and Meghan have put all four feet wrong.

Not Worth The Hype

Much has been made of this book in previews and news articles written from various tidbits of information shared in this book for the first time.

If you know little or nothing about the royal family then this is a very good book. If, however, you’re looking for a new or insider perspective, you’ll probably be disappointed. Yes, there are a few tiny nuggets of new information, but nothing totally unexpected or shocking. Her treatment of Meghan and Harry is mild compared to some other books out there. As a whole, her reverence for the royal family shines through and this can be a good thing to some people and and an irritation to others who want the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

The book is good, not great.

Nothing new here…only ok

Sadly, this was far out of date the moment it was published. It was ok, fluffy at times, but there was nothing here I hadn’t already read or didn’t already know.

No news here

It seems to me that the author plays favorites with the royals and is disrespectful to the American presidents that have visited.
