This title is taken from C.S. Lewis and his Inklings in the mid-twentieth century. They were facing claims that Christianity is derivative due to many thematic parallels with pre-Christian myths. The Inklings modeled an approach to the problem that suggested the story of Jesus was "the myth made fact." on this view the collective storytelling consciousness anticipates the arrival of Christ in our various mythological traditions.

Louis Markos demonstrates that the early church was in keeping with this trajectory. It did not originate with Lewis. Better, he goes through fifty examples, showing how the early church read the myths in a Christocentric way.

Insight into Myths I never thought about!

Dr. Markos was introduced to me while listening to an episode of The Naked Bible Podcast. I am so glad I bought this audio book! I have purchased two other books by Dr Markos now.
Thinking about how general revelation and the human conscience and yearning for "Truth" as found in both Greek and Roman Myths had never dawned on me. I have found a whole new way to think about The Classics and how God brought to us all, the real Truth!!
A must read for anyone!!

An Amazing Primer

If you need someone to guide you through the legends that undergird Greek and Roman thought this is an excellent resource. As an audiobook it suffered a little but as a resource in print this would be a great way to start conversations in classrooms and other settings.

Too preachy

Awful narration. The voice he uses when reading from the Bible is so ridiculous. He clearly wants to add some gravitas to scripture but he totally undermines his effort with his over-the-top revival preacher vibes with excessively rolled r's that it's hard to even take it seriously.

The myth retellings with connections to biblical stories are pretty good. I started skipping the application sections because they made my eyes roll too much but I clearly wasn't the intended audience for that.
