Publisher's summary

The New York Times bestselling author of The XX Brain shows women how to navigate menopause successfully and come out the other side with an even better brain.

Menopause and perimenopause are still a black box to most doctors, leaving patients exasperated as they grapple with symptoms ranging from hot flashes to insomnia to brain fog. As a leading neuroscientist and women’s brain health specialist, Dr. Mosconi unravels these mysteries by revealing how menopause doesn’t just impact the ovaries—it’s a hormonal show in which the brain takes center stage.

The decline of the hormone estrogen during menopause influences everything from body temperature to mood to memory, potentially paving the way for cognitive decline later in life. To conquer these challenges successfully, Dr. Mosconi brings us the latest approaches—explaining the role of cutting-edge hormone replacement therapies like “designer estrogens,” hormonal contraception, and key lifestyle changes encompassing diet, exercise, self-care, and self-talk.

Best of all, Dr. Mosconi dispels the myth that menopause signifies an end, demonstrating that it’s actually a transition. Contrary to popular belief, if we know how to take care of ourselves during menopause, we can emerge with a renewed, enhanced brain—ushering in a meaningful and vibrant new chapter of life.

“In a society that often downplays the significance of menopause and its impact on women's lives, Dr. Mosconi's book serves as a rallying cry for embracing this transformative period with knowledge and empowerment. Her insights remind me of the importance of fostering a sense of community and support among women, a sentiment I hold dear in my own work.”—Mary Claire Haver, MD, bestselling author of The Galveston Diet

“Every woman should know that menopause is more than just mood and hot flashes; it can profoundly impact brain health and function. Dr. Lisa Mosconi stands as a foremost expert on the menopause brain. This outstanding new book is a must-read, and I wholeheartedly recommend it.”—Naomi Watts

A MUST READ for all Women!

I’ve read several books on menopause, but this book’s focus on the impact on the brain is great! The complicated interplay that occurs between our brain, hormones, metabolic / gut health, etc., was explained nicely and easy to understand. Women will be empowered with information that will help them make decisions that best meets their needs and personal choices. I listened and bought a hard copy of the book.

Should Be Required Reading

I wish I had this knowledge as a teenager or at least postpartum, but I’ll take it now too. So informative.

Informative and easy to understand

I felt this book provided all the information that I was looking for and in a manner that made it easy to understand. Most scientists write for other scientists but I appreciate that Dr. Mosconi has written this book to educate and inform the larger community. Thank you, Dr. Mosconi for all your research and work!

women are women. men are not women

I am having a hard time taking anything this author says as truth. She makes statements supporting menopause for men who believe they are women.

Repetitive

The book is very similar to xx brain. It is repetitive and very difficult to catch my attention. The author dedicated1/2 or more than 1/2 of the book explaining how the chapter will be. I do not recommend although the research is very important

Gives Feminism a bad name

False information to promote agenda rather than help empower women TERRIBLE. does not provide practical help for menopause.
