Thought provoking, absorbing, and entertaining

I read the book last summer when it came out and immediately ordered the Audible version. It is fabulous both ways, but I think I like the audio a bit more. It is a wonderful experience of feeling as if i'm sitting around a campfire and listening to an amazing storyteller. The type of storyteller who brings the listener into the scene, where the sensory descriptions are just as important and entertaining as the actual story.

Sophie Strand seamlessly tells a story that includes Hebrew and Christian writings and stories; gnostic writings, myth, and history. It is such a thought-provoking story that it has made me think of Jesus, Mary Magdalene, and Christianity differently, expanded it to acknowledge much more more than the "official" story.

Incredible story and delivery

I couldn’t stop listening once I started. Mesmerizing from start to finish, this book begs us to remember all that we already know. I feel so connected to the hearts of all women, future and past, after reading it. Thank you, Sophie, for this creation. I was absolutely moved by it.

The Madonna Secret contains a living, breathing world that I never wanted to leave. I loved meeting Mary Magdalene in her fullness — a complex, wise mystic with a deep connection to wilderness and the divine. This book is a stunning exploration of love, healing, and the power of women — especially through their connection to the wild world.

I am forever changed after this book. I will never look at familiar stories and one-dimensional female characters in history without wondering what aspects of their aliveness have been sterilized from the story.

I highly recommend this book for anyone, whether you’re a religious scholar, a philosopher, someone seeking a great love story, or someone who wants to access your own wisdom and magic.
