wow! Not your usual Maeve Kerrigan!

I've been reading Jane Casey for about a year the year now, and Ive read all of her Maeve Kerrigan stories. This is not Maeve Kerrigan. However, it is is creative challenging and well planned, well paced thriller.. It's a good story with believable characters and plenty of suspense and surprises.
The main character is the more sophisticated character than Maeve, And I found that refreshing. She's an adult lawyer, and she she has all the challenges of a young adult professional in the world, except that she has a particular client who won't let her go....

Not Maeve, but very entertaining

I approached this new Jane Casey entry with caution since it appeared to be either a new series or a standalone outside of the Maeve Kerrigan universe. Fans should stick with it. It gets better as it develops and apparent plot holes are filled. Some twists were guessable, some had me fooled, but I was certainly grabbed by the Need to Read until the end.

Too many "red herrings"

I like Jane Casey's writing, but this one was over the top for believability. Too many red herrings and the heroine was needless reckless and sometimes downright stupid to be believable as a lawyer.

great story and great performance

it was so nice to listen to such a long audio book that kept my attention the whole time. I just wish the narrator would have lowered her voice for male voices because in some of the conversations it was hard to tell who was talking. but I still gave her four stars because the female voices were so good.

CON-VO-LU-TED

Hard to understand motivations and actions of main character (or lack there of). Al the characters are either obtuse or one dimensional. Narrator was alright once I put it on 1.5 speed.

Not Maeve but wow

I loved the tight prose, the surprises and the intimate view of a brilliant legal mind. Would not mind meeting Ingrid again

Terrific!

This is one of the best mystery-thrillers I have ever read, but that isn’t a surprise. If you haven’t read Casey’s other works, treat yourself to all of them. Some writers’ diminish with each successive book. Others, like Jane , just keep getting better and better. The Killing Kind had so many twists and turns that I was kept guessing until the very end. It was great.

Just Luke Warm

Big fan here of Jane Casey's previous police novels. Her characters, plots, and overall atmosphere have consistently held my interest and I have invested many an Audible credit in her books. I was prepared to love this novel. Unfortunately, the various plot paths
simply didn't grip me. And I found it hard to keep track of the characters. It didn't help that two minor but key characters had the same first name. Why do this? The narrator performed in a flat voice. I didn't hate the book. The lead character is strong and courageous. However, I doubt that I'll purchase another book featuring her if this turns out to be the start of a series.

Odd meandering plot

Ultimately unsatisfying plot and unlikeable characters compared to Jane Casey’s other works. Skip this one.

Starts strong

I have to say the plot got quite stretched as the story unfolded. The protagonist has to be the unluckiest person on earth what with all that goes on around her. Some of the plot goes way beyond what is remotely believable, and one of the characters is way too much of a (bad) scarlet pimpernel. But it’s the kind of book you have to stick with to try to figure out who did what (if you are me!). I note other reviewers did not finish for probably the same reasons. Well narrated which carried me to the end.
