Publisher's summary

Two young Israeli boys discover an ancient red clay jar in a hidden cave tucked away in the Judean Desert near Qumran.

Inside the jar are several scrolls written by the Essenes 2,000 years earlier, before the Great Jewish Revolt, including one legendary scroll engraved on silver that speaks of what may be the great Lost Treasures of Solomon buried around Jerusalem—consistent with the predictions of the fabled Copper Scroll discovered in 1947 near the Dead Sea. But one of the overlooked parchments turns out to be far more pivotal to Christianity than anything ever before discovered—a startling manuscript written by St. Paul himself that could rewrite religious history.

Father Michael Dominic and his friends are called to Jerusalem to inspect the silver scroll, but others are trying to get to the precious manuscripts first—members of a little known sect called the Mithraists, the chief rival to Christianity up to the fourth century...a wealthy Texas televangelist...an Egyptian antiquities broker...Israeli Mossad agents...and a cast of rogues each out for themselves.

Follow the adventures of Father Dominic and his loyal team from Rome to the Holy Land—through the colorful bazaars of Cairo to the ancient holy sites of Jerusalem and Jordan—in this engaging, historical international thriller.

"This job isn't always just prayers and parchments," Father Micahel Dominic quips, as he and his cohort of experts in ancient religious documents and artifacts face a theft, a murder, and a race to unearth "the largest known buried treasure in world history." So it goes in McAvoy's fifth book in the Vatican Secret Archives series.... The story builds strong momentum without sacrificing the hallmarks of McAvoy's genre: the sense of awe and of history remains potent throughout, even amidst the cobra attacks, stun gun maneuvers, and occasional flayings. Quality control remains high in this series, and McAvoy plants seeds, after a winning conclusion, for more adventure to come." (Publishers Weekly - Booklife)

Great book/ annoying narrator

I really enjoy the books by Gary McAvoy, having read several before this one, but this narrator is annoying. This is the second book I’ve attempted to listen to. The other one is ended up reading rather than listening. This one I did listen to all the way through because I didn’t have time to read it. The next one I will take the time to listen to.

A bit of advice to those who may find this book a bit blasphemous, it is a work of FICTION. At the end of each of his books Mr. McAvoy goes into what is historical and what comes from his imagination. As a deeply religious person myself, I find his work entertaining but not against Christianity or any other religious group IN MY OPINION. I find them to be detailed without being detailed to the point of making the story drag. I will definitely be continuing my journey through Mr. McAvoy’s work.

Suspenseful Story!

Boy, I was tired of running around Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Cairo chasing after the scrolls. This was an exciting story! Very well written! The characters very believable and the despicable Sarah! I hope she gets caught and arrested in another of this writer’s stories! The narrator was excellent and kept the suspense throughout the entire story!
Well done!

Read compile Fr Dominic series.

I have read the entire Fr Dominic series. Very enjoyable. Somewhat predictable. If I had a criticism it would be the excessive discussion of their meals. If another book comes out I’ll be sure to read it. Excellent voice artist!

Both Series Remarkable

I have listened to both the Secret Vatican Archive Series AND the
Magdeline Series. I enjoy the writer and the narrator very much! I enjoy the history, religious, culture and geographical connections. I cannot imagine how Will Damron keeps all of the various character voices going on so perfectly that I can see the story moving in my mind’s eye…in technicolor. Impressive and now waiting for Galileo’s Gambit on Audible…..but does Pastor Darwin really have to be a part of it??😂

Thrilling Travel Adventure

This was my first experience with Gary McAvoy's work, and it was fascinating. Although this was the fifth book in the "Vatican Secret Archive Thrillers" series, I was entertained and captivated by the story. I enjoyed the various characters. I appreciated the high-octane thriller which traveled from place to place as several groups tried to gain control of the legendary scrolls found in a cave. I enjoyed all the twists and turns. Will Damron's narration was great, and his performance kept my attention. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Entertaining and historically plauseable

I love history an/or historic fiction. There are some things in the story that (probably!?) are not possible. But that having been said, do provide entertainment and excitement. On to the next one.
