Publisher's summary

The Illustrated Man, a seminal work in Ray Bradbury's career, whose extraordinary power and imagination remain undimmed by time's passage....

Ray Bradbury brings wonders alive. For this peerless American storyteller, the most bewitching force in the universe is human nature. In these 18 startling tales unfolding across a canvas of tattooed skin, living cities take their vengeance, technology awakens the most primal natural instincts, and dreams are carried aloft in junkyard rockets. Provocative and powerful, The Illustrated Man is a kaleidoscopic blending of magic, imagination, and truth - as exhilarating as interplanetary travel, as maddening as a walk in a million-year rain, and as comforting as simple, familiar rituals on the last night of the world.

A journey

I am a huge fan of Bradbury and his many works. This was an incredible set of short stories which each one making its own meaning clear by the end. I find it fascinating on how he predicted the different ways the future would look and how it still related to his era. Fantastic listen

Great Classic Sci-fi!

Great collection! Anyone badmouthing it saying it’s dated or ‘leftist’ obviously knows little of the genre. Bradbury is a master storyteller and did a great job with these short stories. Highly recommend!

Narration is garbage

The narrator wasn't the right choice. Stories need more pause, chapter titles, something! Harder than necessary to follow.

Raybury's classic collection of short stories

This isn't a novel so much as a collection of short stories held together in bookended fashion by a story about the illustrated man.... all the other stories are supposed to be representations of the stories on his body. They're of various value, some peole will prefer some, some others. All I'm going to say is one gets the distinct impression that Bradbury REALLY didn't like little kids very much, to the point of being afraid of them.

Interesting

I thought this book was really interesting and I thought the reader did a good job. I just wish there was a few more seconds in between each story to let it hit a little more.

Excelente

Todos los cuentos de este autor son excelentes. Su crítica hacia la sociedad humana sigue vigente. Genial, la forma en que nos transporta al pasado y al futuro.

Stellar performance to classic sci-fi tales

The performance on this was wonderful. Just enough to bring the story to life without turning it into an audio play. The stories were a mixed bag but the gems make it well worth a listen. A few are sure to stick with me forever, actually. As with other Bradbury collections (e.g., The Martian Chronicles), trying to roll all these into a single narrative felt forced or incongruous. Even still, the stories that did fit with the overall narrative were enjoyable.

Good but DEE-PRESS-SING!

Great stories but Bradbury’s vision of the future is sad. Why does nearly every story have to be a tale of humanity at its worse?
Scott Brick is superb as usual. He does melancholy very well. One sweet story does provide a positive note to the collection. Just don’t listen to this book if you are currently in an existential crisis.

Amazing!

Bradbury knows how to get under a readers skin and attack the human condition through our most basic fears and instincts in the most uncomfortable ways! These stories know how climb right off the illustrated man’s skin, through the pages, and into our nightmares like only the greatest stores know how! He does t need him scares or gore to torment the mind and our hearts for many days…. And sleepless nights to come!
