Publisher's summary

Bronte Mettlestone is 10 years old when her parents are killed by pirates. This does not bother her particularly: Her parents ran away to have adventures when she was a baby. She has been raised by her aunt Isabelle, with assistance from the butler, and has spent a pleasant childhood of afternoon teas and riding lessons. Now, however, her parents have left detailed instructions for Bronte in their will. (Instructions that, annoyingly, have been reinforced with faery cross-stitch, which means that if she doesn't complete them, terrible things could happen!)

She travels the kingdoms, perfectly alone, delivering gifts to 10 other aunts: a farmer aunt who owns an orange orchard, a veterinarian aunt who specializes in dragon care, a pair of aunts who captain a cruise ship, and a former rock-star aunt who is now the reigning monarch of a small kingdom. But as she travels from aunt to aunt, Bronte suspects there might be more to this journey than the simple delivery of treasure.

Bronze’s storytelling ability

It’s a fun story of adventure. I especially loved the reader and the animation she put into her voice when telling us of Bronte’s adventures.

But what an adventure ...

The title of this tale actually captures the essence of the story. Jaclyn Moriarty creates a fantasy world worthy of Bronte Mettle-stone’s bequeathed adventures. Yes, I said bequeathed. Add in a menagerie of creatures, some familiar some new, and mix in an excursion with baffling instructions and an Extremely Inconvenient Adventure ensues.

Join Bronte as she she travels across the country to meet her aunts and bringing gifts from her deceased parents, whom Bronte does not even remember. However, her Aunts share many stories about both her parents with Bronte, many leading to more questions! There are many twists and turns along the way which make for even better adventure.

Charlie Sanderson does a great job narrating the story and bringing the characters to life. This is quite the task considering there is an enormous cast of characters. For the most part , it is easy to discern who is speaking. Ms. Draws on a plethora of accent and tone. Well done!

Meh.

My kids really enjoyed the story and to be fair I did find the different aunts amusing. BUT good Lord the narrators voice was PAINFUL! She was either whispering or screeching at the top of her lungs. I mean it was truly truly terrible!

huh?

I felt like this book needed a chapter or two of exposition and world building. I was left pretty lost and confused by the stream of consciousness style narrative. The voice over was terrific, but the story didn't hold up for me.
