Publisher's summary

Tragedy has found Cassiopeia Vitt. The woman she admires most, Esmerelda Fontana, has been brutally murdered. Then Cassiopeia’s castle rebuilding project is viciously attacked and people are hurt. Are the two incidents related? The answer comes when her old friend, Nicodème L’Etoile, is threatened and she finds herself drawn into a tangled web of revenge that leads straight to the person she loves the most.

Cotton Malone.

And his life will depend on what she does next.

From the rocky coasts of northern Spain, to a medieval building site in France, and finally into Italy and the oldest surviving republic in the world, Cassiopeia must confront a devil from her past, a man obsessed with her destruction. The choices she has to make will be the toughest she’s ever faced. Life and death decisions that force her - to the end of forever.

Another Casseopeia Vitt adventure

This story is actually the continuation of the previous novella, The House Of Long Ago. Seeds planted there reap a vengeful tale. It begins with the funeral of one of Cassiopeia's closest friends after her murder. Casseopeia soon realizes that the killing and subsequent attacks on those close to her are actually a coordinated attack. This is perhaps the closest to a Cotton Malone book of any of the Cassiopeia novellas have come. Lots of action and no shortage of very bad people doing very bad things... until someone decides to stop them. But the story also takes into account the cost of vengeance on a person's soul. This is viewed head on and not simply glossed over. I think that this duology of novellas make for a very worthy reading. I recommend it.

Loved it, just wish it was longer!

Absolutely love the Cotton Malone and Cassiopeia Vitt stories. I enjoyed that they were able to join the characters in this story and have them meet up. Only wish it was longer, I hate for it to end.
