Story
For professional cyclists, going faster and winning are, of course, closely related. Yet surprisingly, for many, a desire to go faster is much more important than a desire to win. Someone who wants to go faster will work at the details and take small steps rather than focusing on winning. Winning just happens when you do everything right - it's the doing everything right that's hard. And that's what fascinates and obsesses Michael Hutchinson.

Lance Armstrong won a record-smashing seven Tours de France after staring down cancer, and in the process became an international symbol of resilience and courage. In a sport constantly dogged by blood-doping scandals, he seemed above the fray. Then, in January 2013, the legend imploded. Greg LeMond stunned the sporting world by becoming the first American to win the Tour de France in 1986, defeating French cycling legend Bernard Hinault. Nine months later, LeMond lay in a hospital bed, his career as a bicycle racer seemingly over. And yet, barely two years after this crisis, LeMond mounted a comeback. In 1989, he once again won the Tour - by a narrow margin of eight seconds. It remains the closest Tour de France in history. The Comeback chronicles the life of this great American athlete, from his roots in Nevada and California to the heights of global fame.

Story
When, during the Pyrenean stages of the 1998 Tour de France, a journalist asked Marco Pantani why he rode so fast in the mountains, the elfin Italian, unmistakeable in the bandanna and hooped ear-rings that played up to his 'Pirate' nickname, replied: 'To shorten my agony.' Drawing on the fervour for these men of the mountains, Climbers looks at what sets these athletes apart within the world of bike racing, about why we love and cherish them, how they make cycling beautiful and how they see themselves and the feats they achieve.

A true cycling nut would be hard pushed to name all 36 races in just a ‘normal’ UCI World Tour. But there are so many more: 375 on the European Tour alone and many more on the America Tour (80), the Asia Tour (65), and the Africa Tour (45). It’s a year-long schedule, most of it unfamiliar. They may be amazing, they may be odd, but all have their place in the Sticky Bottle calendar. Big races and small ones find a place in Sticky Bottle as well as the relatively unknown. Here are personal and historical tales of cycling wonder and woe, plus a healthy smattering of the bizarre.

It is a unique book that conquers both the scientific and practical points of running in two different sections. The first is aimed at identifying what limits running performance from a scientific standpoint. In section two, we turn to the practical application of this information and focus on the process of training to achieve your goals.

Triathlon: Winning at 70.3 is dedicated to all triathletes who are thinking about stepping up to the middle distance. 70.3 Half Ironman training requires quite a different approach to the shorter distances, and to be successful, a more professional approach to training is required. Do not set yourself up for failure on race day! Simply doubling your Olympic distance training will not work. Those who do this will struggle. Do not be one of these! 70.3 triathlon is a serious step up and preparation is key.

Forget what you might have been told; triathlon running is not like typical running. The triathlon run comes after a swim and a bike. The training, pacing, and technique requirements are very different from regular running. But this isn’t what triathletes have been told. Fortunately, with the right kind of run training, the triathlon run doesn’t have to be a long, painful slog with a stumble to the finish. Triathlon Running Foundations provides the specific information athletes need in order to feel strong for every step of the run, all the way to the finish.

Drawing on the fervour for these men of the mountains, Climbers looks at what sets these athletes apart within the world of bike racing, about why we love and cherish them, how they make cycling beautiful and how they see themselves and the feats they achieve.

The first in-depth look at Lance Armstrong's doping scandal, the phenomenal business success built on the back of fraud, and the greatest conspiracy in the history of sports. Lance Armstrong won a record-smashing seven Tours de France after staring down cancer, and in the process became an international symbol of resilience and courage. In a sport constantly dogged by blood-doping scandals, he seemed above the fray. Then, in January 2013, the legend imploded. The Tour de France may provide the most obvious fame and glory, but it is cycling’s one-day tests that the professional riders really prize. Toughest, longest and dirtiest of all are the so-called ‘Monuments’, the five legendary races that are the sport’s equivalent of golf’s majors or the grand slams in tennis. Milan–Sanremo, the Tour of Flanders, Paris–Roubaix, Liège–Bastogne–Liège and the Tour of Lombardy date back more than a century, and each of them is an anomaly in modern-day sport. Peter Cossins tells the history of these extraordinary races and the riders they have immortalised.

Story
In 1997, Jan Ullrich announced himself to the world by obliterating his rivals in the first mountain stage of the Tour de France. So awesome was his display that it sent shockwaves throughout the world of cycling and invited headlines such as L’Équipe’s ‘The New Giant’. He went on to become Germany’s first ever Tour winner, storming to victory in that edition by almost 10 minutes, a result that was greeted as an era-defining changing of the guard. Everyone agreed: Jan Ullrich was the future of cycling.

Story
Jonathan Vaughters' story is the story of modern cycling. From his early years as a keen cyclist in his hometown in Colorado to his unflinching rite of passage as a professional rider with US Postal to his elevation as one of cycling's most resilient, ethical, and intelligent team bosses, the highs and lows of his career have mirrored those of the sport itself.

Fantastic information for self-trainers!
As a certified fitness trainer and amateur cyclist, I think this book is perfect for those wanting to train themselves to be better cyclists. the information is practical and well presented, and following a structured training plan as recommended can do wonders for performance.
This book may not be helpful for advanced cyclists who have worked with a cycling coach in the past.

Great info
Great info on periodization and how to improve as an advanced cyclist, but mostly it taught me I am not there yet. I still need some years of just riding more before doing all of this. Will do some of this before races but mainly focus on riding more in the majority of the year.
And yes, there is a supplementary pdf contrary to what the other reviewer said and it is available in the audible app.

Appendix B is missing
I'm in love with the book, everything is really well structured, but it was a surprise to see that appendix B which refers to workouts is missing.

This book and wko5 is a perfect match.
I use this book(Cyclist Training Bible=>CTB) and wko5 to help improve my cycling performance, CTB is a great book that explains the training concepts not listed in wko5 webinars and gives me some more options that are also likely to make me stronger. These concepts are listed below:
1.weight training, it is high risk but also high return.
2.Every 2-3 weeks followed by 1 rest week, if you want to do some ftp test or threshold heart rate test, 3-5 days of rest before your test is recommended.
3.Professional bike fit is highly recommended and should be done every year, you may gain even 10% more of you power output after bike fit.
4.CTB explains the importance of the base phase using EF(efficency factor) that shows you an exact number of how much your aerobic fitness increases or decrease throughout your year.
There is still more to discover, listening(also reading) CTB only once is not enough, at least I need to listen/read it 3 times to get the most out of it. This book is great and highly recommended!

No supplementary pdf
No supplementary PDF. The book refers to the PDF all the time making it pretty useless

Missing Appendix B
Great concepts. But pdf is missing Appendix B (workouts). Please update! Impractical to put concepts into practice without it.
