Publisher's summary

In this revised, updated, and expanded edition, the author explores the life of Theodore Bundy, one of the more infamous—and flamboyant—American serial killers on record.

Bundy's story is a complex mix of psychopathology, criminal investigation, and the US legal system. This in-depth examination of Bundy's life and his killing spree that totaled dozens of victims is drawn from legal transcripts, correspondence, and interviews with detectives and prosecutors. Using these sources, new information about several murders is unveiled.

The biography follows Bundy from his broken family background to his execution in the electric chair.

Top 5 bundy books

I had read the first edition some years ago so was excited to see a second updated volume to see what else can be added to such a long factual book. I was happy with the result it is exactly what the book says it is a comprehensive history

Are there better books on bundy ? I think so but I think of you are studying up on a killer like bundy this is a pretty good place to start

Excellent Coverage, many details grisly.

This book brought tremendous insight and behind the scenes detail.
Very well done. In fact, it is so thorough that I had to fast forward when I couldn't stomach the details at hand.
Bravo.

Very detailed

I learned many facts about the cases I did not know previously. He is a skilled writer who honors the victims and exposes Bundy for who he really was.

Its a good book and I have listened several times.

I think overall it is a great book, and like the others, I am a little jarred by the phrase of comparing what Ted Bundy did to his victims as "making love". Psychopaths do not have the capacity for love.

Also, love and attraction have little to do with rape. What he was doing to them should be classified and referred to as aggravated sexual assault. I know it may make talking about something like that really disturbing but its important to not associate it with a healthy and intimate part of a loving relationship.

Otherwise, great book. There are some times when a wrong word is used, but it hardly takes precedence over the depth and complexity of this book. I really appreciate it, thank you!

Very good book for true crime junkies

My wife and I are huge fans of true crime. From podcasts to documentaries to driving 8 hours to Gatlinburg, TN just to see the light brown VW Bug, we spend a lot of time fascinated with people who commit insane crimes. Everyone knows Bundy, or at least think they do until they read a book like this. If you’re worried about gory details, you can still enjoy this expertly written account of the most famous murderer in recent history. The book is incredibly detailed and thorough, but it doesn’t go into the kind of details that will make you skip lunch. It’s well worth the time and money. I highly recommend.

The Most detailed account of his crimes.

I prefer the gory details and this book delivers. Better in my opinion than "A stranger beside me".
very well done. I just wish it was longer.

Horrendous, Disturbing but the truth

The story of Bundy has been so glamorized but this reveals his true depravity.

This is a master storyteller. I learned new things and I could not shut if off. I will be listening to more and adding books too. Give a listen.

Love letter to a villain

I bought this title because I listened to another title by this author available in the Plus Catalogue, and as I have read/listened to many True Crime books over the years, thought that this title would be a good one to add to my collection. Sadly, it is not. The writing, and even the narration, comes across as a breathy fan letter to a comic book villain, not a sober examination of a murderer and his victims. I did not keep track of how many times the author extolled the intelligence and "preeminence" of the subject, but it was enough that by the end of the book, I was more than a little appalled. I also found the constant references to the author's other books on the same subject to be off putting. I don't doubt that the book is factual, or that the author knows his subject well; it was just not for me.

Clear presentation

This books seems to be a clear presentation of the facts of the Bundy case. I dislike the regional accent of the narrator which changes short A’s into short E’s as in prank into prenk. A simple third person point of view of the story, probably a good starting place to get to know the case and at least is not riddled with the discussion of her own involvement of the Ann Rule book.
