Publisher's summary

The long-anticipated origin story of legendary Marine, fan favorite, and father of literary icon Bob Lee takes us to the battlefields of World War II as Earl Swagger embarks on a top secret and deadly mission—from Pulitzer Prize-winning and New York Times bestselling Stephen Hunter, “one of the best thriller novelists around” (The Washington Post).

July, 1944: The lush, rolling hills of Normandy are dotted with a new feature—German snipers. From their vantage points, they pick off hundreds of Allied soldiers every day, bringing the D-Day invasion to its knees. It’s clear that someone is tipping off these snipers with the locations of American GIs, but who? And how?

General Eisenhower demands his intelligence service to find the best shot in the Allied military to counter this deadly SS operation. Enter Pacific hero Earl Swagger, assigned this crucial and bloody mission. With crosshairs on his back, Swagger can’t trust anyone as he infiltrates the shadowy corners of London and France for answers.

From “a true master at the pinnacle of his craft” (Jack Carr, author of the Terminal List series), The Bullet Garden is an electrifying historical thriller that is sure to become a classic.

2 years of Mr Hunter’s work and another Masterpiece!

Brilliant as always. Very well researched.
Amazing how much true WWII history one can learn from a novel!
Witty and very creatively written. I was sad to reach the end with no more listening to enjoy.
I just wish Mr Hunter could write faster so I would not wait so long for his next book!

Earl consistently one step ahead

Earl is the epitome of a self-deprecating chess grand master. The story takes us from is always humble self to the highest of praise.

Classic Stephen Hunter

Great detective story set in WWII. I don’t understand the reviewers that complain that there’s too much information, or “minutia.” The characters are well developed, with rich backstories, and the information on weapons, or tactics, or just background details paint a fully realized world that make for an engaging and gripping story. Eric Dove does a great job with the narration, and, while I’m not an expert on dialects, his accents sound true and add authenticity.

Another Great Earl Swagger Story!

Love this audiobook! So glad the original narrator came back on! Havana would of been much better with him.

Fantastic read

Loved every part of this work. Hunter nailed the tone in every sentence. Funny, poignant, world-weary, and tough, just like Earl Swagger and the other characters. Highest recommendation.

Good but not great

So I have a huge question. If Evans the tennis player from Master Sniper and Havana drove Earl to the plane how did he not remember in Havana. I can believe Earl forgot about some nobody who drove him one time but Earl was not someone you forget. Overall still a very good story and I hope we get a few more Earl stories.
