Publisher's summary

The Boy on the Bridge: Booktrack Edition adds an immersive musical soundtrack to your audiobook listening experience!*

If you fell in love with Melanie in the million-copy-selling post-apocalyptic phenomenon The Girl With All the Gifts - there's more to the story...

Once upon a time, in a land blighted by terror, there was a very clever boy.

The people thought the boy could save them, so they opened their gates and sent him out into the world.

To where the monsters lived.

*Booktrack is an immersive format that pairs traditional audiobook narration to complementary music. The tempo and rhythm of the score are in perfect harmony with the action and characters throughout the audiobook. Gently playing in the background, the music never overpowers or distracts from the narration, so listeners can enjoy every minute. When you purchase this Booktrack edition, you receive the exact narration as the traditional audiobook available, with the addition of music throughout.

Another thread in this dystopia

Not really a sequel; more of a paralleloquel. The tremendous inventiveness and internal consistency of The Girl with All the Gifts returns. This, ironically robs this second book of some surprises, since many of the most brilliant twists of the first book can't be repeated. Some revelations are a bit obvious. But, the characters are all new (until the Epilogue), skillfully drawn, sympathetic; the plot is thick enough, the villains hateful enough, the heroes solid, and the reader is fantastic. (One microscopic, perennial gripe is about writers who aren't knowledgeable about firearms who don't bother to have their work proofread by someone who is, resulting in occasional blunders that distract from the action at critical times. If you're going to go technical, do it right.) Overall well worth it. Might not even be necessary to read the two books in order.

Story was interesting but that music, please stop

The story was interesting, not as good as The Girl With the Gifts but still worth listening to. Narrator was a little monotonous but I've definitely heard worse. BUT that ambient music on a loop and not linked to the mood of a scene was totally unnecessary and very distracting. It served no purpose that I could discern and at times was completely inappropriate to the scene. please.... don't just add random canned music to audio books. It isn't necessary to a good book and it doesn't distract from a bad one.

The end had me in tears!

When I saw the first book had a sequel, I got it because I was afraid I would feel unfulfilled without it. I didn't hold much hope that I would actually enjoy it. In some ways, this book is better than the first. The story is interesting, albeit different than the story from the first book. They eventually tie together so seamlessly well that I cried my eyes out. If you have read the first book, please do yourself a favor and get this one too. Together, they make an amazing set!

The music didn't dampen my joy of listening and the narrator did another phenomenal job.

Thoroughly enjoyed!

I liked this book even more than The Girl With all the Gifts! Great narration, and an intriguing story.

Even better than the first book of the series!

This book is AMAZING! I really hope that the author decides to continue the story. After reading The Girl With All The Gifts and then finishing this one, the story definitely would be complete with just these two. However, my fangirl heart yearns for more!

This book was wonderfully written and narrated. You delve so deep into the story when you listen that it's almost as if you are living it. The epilogue gave me goosebumps more than once (I even replayed just the epilogue and got the same response). I listened at work and almost had to stop listening because I was getting so emotional during the epilogue!

PLEASE KEEP WRITING MORE BOOKS, M. R. CAREY, EVEN IF THEY HAVE OTHER STORY PLOTS. The gift you share with us all through writing deserves to be heard and read! You have such a talent ❤

Fantastic prequel!

Another great performance and soundtrack. I'm actually surprised the follow-up kept me more on edge than the original!

Good story with annoying background music

This dovetails very nicely with The Girl With All the Gifts. The epilogue does a good job of connecting the dots. The narrator is very good and enhances the story. The background music however was just annoying to me and could have done without.

A bit slow through the first act, however..

once the story picks up and things start happening, this one becomes just as enthralling as the first book. Just a bummer that it took a while to get there. Gave a nice cap off to the fate of the human race as well. The performance is very good, and the addition of theme music was kind of neat. Gave it a certain ambiance.
