Publisher's summary

Choosing between the stability of a traditional career and the upside of entrepreneurship? Why not have both?

Becoming a full-time entrepreneur can look glamorous from the outside. Who doesn't want to chase their dreams, be their own boss, and do what they love? But the truth is that entrepreneurship is often a slog, with no regular hours, no job security, and very little pay. What if there were a way to have the stability of a day job with the excitement of a start-up? All of the benefits of entrepreneurship with none of the pitfalls?

In The 10% Entrepreneur, Patrick McGinnis shows you how, by investing just 10% of your time and resources, you can become an entrepreneur without losing a steady paycheck. McGinnis details a step-by-step plan that takes you from identifying your first entrepreneurial project to figuring out the smartest way to commit resources to it. He shows you how to select and engage in projects that will provide you with upside outside the office while making you better at your day job. He also profiles real-world 10% Entrepreneurs, including Luke Holden, a cash-strapped recent college graduate who started his own lobster-roll empire and oversaw much of its first year of operations, all while working full time in corporate America; Dipali Patwa, a designer and mom whose side project designing and selling infant clothing is now a sensation; and a group of friends who met at a 6:00 a.m. Bible study class and went on to start a brewery that now generates millions in sales.

A successful 10% Entrepreneur himself, McGinnis explains the multiple paths you can follow to invest your cash, time, and expertise in a start-up - including as a founder, angel, advisor, or aficionado. Most importantly, you don't have to have millions in disposable income to become a 10% Entrepreneur. When you put McGinnis's 10% principles into action, you'll quickly start racking up small wins then watch as they snowball into your new (and far more entrepreneurial) life.

Unexpectedly what I was looking for

I initially didn't want to read this because I want the title threw me off, but I'm happy I did because it was very informative and helpful in motivating me. It's a great book for anyone and especially those working full time - thinking of other income streams outside of what we call living paycheck to paycheck.

The profiles of entrepeneurs desvribed in this book demostrate that anyone can start a company. Just find and idea and iterate fast.

Interesting Ideas

There are some very good stories told in this book. Not sure I'm in a position to take advantage of any of the ideas put forth though.

Great Book

I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook. The best part about it was listening to the author's unique perspective on starting your own company and becoming an entrepreneur. He was well versed on starting a company and the different ways to get exposure to experience and leadership as a beginner. I really like how the author emphasized that you can become an entrepreneur without giving up your day job. He actually emphasized how important it is to have some type of job or foundation that is steady and a secure source of income while building your 10% business. He shared that trying it partially will give you a realistic view of the challenges, ups, and downs with the flexibility not to have to depend on it with room to change your mind. I would definitely recommend this book to others who are looking to start a business!

Good Book Worth a Listen

Gives some good advice, and references some good stories, but ultimately was a bit slow and redundant.

The audiobook makes reference to many exercises that are available in print that aren’t included with the audio book.

All things considered it’s still worth a listen.

Great concept

The book has a good generalized way of becoming an investor. Still not too sure where to start but a lot of concepts were very interesting

Great read

It was a very good book to listen too. I wish there was a way to download some of the exercises. Being this was my very first book from Audible, I'm not quite sure how to navigate if there are downloads. I'm a heavy equipment mechanic looking into starting my own business. This book brought up a lot of good pointers and ways I can better prepare myself for this endeavor. If you can't figure out how to read between the lines and apply the information, perhaps you should look into another read.
