Publisher's summary

When a dystopian government controls every aspect of society, siblings Wisty and Whit Allgood may be the world's only hope in this magical beginning of James Patterson's Witch & Wizard series.

The world is changing: the government has seized control of every aspect of society, and now, kids are disappearing. For 15-year-old Wisty and her older brother Whit, life turns upside down when they are torn from their parents one night and slammed into a secret prison for no reason they can comprehend. The New Order, as it is known, is clearly trying to suppress Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Being a Normal Teenager. But while trapped in this totalitarian nightmare, Wisty and Whit discover they have incredible powers they'd never dreamed of. Can this newly minted witch and wizard master their skills in time to save themselves, their parents—and maybe the world?

Grandma reads this book

As a grandmother, I wanted to know if this book was appropriate for my grandchildren. It is and I will be proud to get this set for them, It is just as good as the Harry Potter series.

I expected better

Lacking subtlety, the story refuses to turn itself into literature. Bibbidi bobbidi boo. Or is it Bippity Boppity Boo? A question more interesting than the story.

mediocre but entertaining enough

female narrator tries too hard, I didn't really like her. Elijah did great though. story ok but kinda, I don't know, not developed enough I guess. I will be returning for something better.

Confused but satisfied

You'd never know this was a Patterson work if his name wasn't on the cover. A little simplified, possibly geared toward the younger reader, but I've read everything the man has published and purchased this one without hestitation. Since I didn't listen to the preview, I was a little surprised by the characters...being very young. A simple story about teenage witch and wizard (brother and sister)coming into their own and the New World Order trying to destroy them. I did find the female lead a little annoying, though!

AWESOME!!

Any additional comments?

This book is not my usual listen. I thought I would take a chance on it since I loved the Harry Potter series and I'm so glad I did. The story really kept me tuned in to it. There is mystery, comedy, suspense, and magic all in this story. I can't wait to finish the next one. If this kind of storyline is your thing...then you will love this one.

Distopian teen saga begins

Wisty and Whit are not your usual teen siblings, bit ones you wish you were or at least knew.
Fighting the evil New Order or ‘NO’ as they learn who they are is the perfect pass time for a summer reader. (And I am 68)
‘W’ Transcends the age barrier and took me back to my protest days as a teen. Grown ups don’t always have al of the answers!
