Publisher's summary

This program also contains seven bonus radio transmissions from Pittacus Lore!

Until the day I met John Smith, Number Four, I'd been on the run alone, hiding and fighting to stay alive.

Together, we are much more powerful. But it could only last so long before we had to separate to find the others....

I went to Spain to find Seven, and I found even more, including a tenth member of the Garde who escaped from Lorien alive. Ella is younger than the rest of us, but just as brave. Now we're looking for the others - including John.

But so are they.

They caught Number One in Malaysia.

Number Two in England.

And Number Three in Kenya.

They caught me in New York - but I escaped.

I am Number Six.

They want to finish what they started.

But they'll have to fight us first.

Great Sequel

Where does The Rise of Nine rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Audiobooks depend upon the narrator almost as much as the story itself and this series has been spot on with solid performance. The only two other series (Wheel of Time and Eragon) seem to have pulled off a consistant performance of the books I've listened too.

What other book might you compare The Rise of Nine to and why?

None

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

Great job by all!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Various times, some were predictable, but others were a twist in the story I wasn't expecting. One of the nice things about this series.

Any additional comments?

I was surprise by the change in 9's behavior between this book and the 'Lost Legacy'. However, it flowed nicely. I would recommend this series to anyone looking for a little escape literature without all of the 'out of this world' spells and powers some series feel they have to add to be exciting.

Audio was a 5/10

The audio repeated in a few places and the audio for chapters 31-38 is literally impossible to understand because it sounds like it was recorded through a toaster. I get wanting it to sound grainy, but I would try to redo that if possible since it is a cool aspect of the story. Otherwise, the storyline was great

where's Sam?

Where's Sam? Was disappointed they didn't rescue him too. The weird voice at the end was annoying and hard to understand.

These are good stories but

Why the hell is Nine being a TOTALL ASS HAT and douchebag jerk literally 99% of the time. And then he legit make a scene with those truckers because he “doesn’t like bullies” after being one himself the entirety of the book? It makes no sense to me

The book is great and performance is awesome, however the last messages are really bad

I have no idea why someone recording an audio book would go out of their way to distort and garble the sound for these last messages. It is terrible. They are just unclear. I understand adding some robot voice or static to them. But this is way over the top.

Entertaining Story

I think I liked "The Power of Six" better, but this was still an entertaining story. We received a little more insight into the characters' personalities and their respective legacies, in addition to meeting another gaurde member. The last half of the book was pretty action packed too.

The love triangle/square that formed during the second book took a back seat in book three. I think that whole angle was a little unbelievable when you threw Sam in there. I'm not quite sure if the story line is dead or might revive itself later, but it didn't really come to a head. Certainly not in typical teenage girl fashion. Overall it was a very good story and I'm excited for the release of book four.

Neil is close to ruining this...

A really fun story, if you ignore the writing style and focus on the story, that is on the borderline for me. Neil Kaplan's voice characterizations are so painful. This story would be so much better if he stuck with the Number 4 voice.
Sam sounds like a nerd with a permanently stuffed up nose. The girl voices are so very bad. Number 8 isn't done well but it's the least painful of his characterizations. Number 9 growls more than talks. It's a rough go when Neil is reading...but the other narrators do a great job.
