Publisher's Summary

Spat out by the sea, the boy lay on the rocks, as still as death. Even if he survived the day, he had no home. No memory. And no name.

So begins the tale of the strange young boy, who having washed up on the shores of ancient Wales, is determined to find his real home and his true name. One day he will become the greatest wizard of all time, but he knows nothing of this now.

At the knee of the mysterious Branwen, who claims to be his mother, the boy learns lore of the Celts, Druids, and people even more ancient. Yet the secret of his identity seems always to escape him. To discover the truth, and the secret of his own powers, he runs away, voyaging to the mist-shrouded side of Fincayra, an enchanted land between earth and sky that is being destroyed by blight. It is there he discovers that the fate of this land and his quest are strangely entwined.

Combining all the passion, power and spiritual depth that are T.A. Barron's hallmarks, this book adds a thrilling new dimension to the legend of Merlin.

    Story
    "Excellent YA fiction! Great writing!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. It is an excellent book for any age.

What does Michael Cumptsy bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Wonderful performance. Very relaxed, his character voices were never forced.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Pretty much.

    Any additional comments?

A wonderful book that captures the spirit of what it means to face adversity, without falling into the obvious choices that real life forces us into. No needless dark themes or unnecessary hero empowerment. Merlin overcomes by good honest integrity of character.

    "BORING"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I really don't know who would like this book. It didn't have a plot and seemed to be a vehicle for the author to try to show how smart he is or something.

What was most disappointing about T.A. Barron’s story?

Lack of a story, narration, the religious undertone and WOW... was it boring!

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

I don't know. His voice was horrible and there really wasn't a pace to the story

What character would you cut from The Lost Years of Merlin?

There was little to no character development (I assume that was on purpose to keep us guessing) so it is impossible to answer that question.

    Any additional comments?

Unless you are looking for just bunches of words strung together to make the author seem like a man of the world, I would pass on this book.
