"I thought things would change when I found the others. We would stop running. We would fight the Mogadorians. And we would win.
"But I was wrong. Even though we have come together, we barely escaped from the Mogadorians with our lives. And now we're in hiding, trying to figure out our next move.
"The six of us are powerful - but we're not yet strong enough to take on their entire army. We haven't discovered the full extent of our Legacies. We haven't learned to work together. And there's still so much that we don't know about the Elders or their plan for us. Time is running out, and there's only one thing we know for certain: We need to find Number Five before they do.
"They caught Number One in Malaysia. Number Two in England. And Number Three in Kenya. I am Number Four. I was supposed to be next. But I'm still alive.
"This battle is far from over."

I realize this series is aimed towards teens, but as a 50+ adult, I must say I'm totally enjoying this series. All of the books have grabbed my attention and held on strongly until the very last word. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Sci-fi/fantasy stories, or even those who enjoy thrillers!
Its really aimed at teens but it has a few twists and turns, definitely entertain while walking to work and doing other things that don't fully occupy the mind.
The Narrator that does the voice for #4 was badly casted for the role. He sounds in his 40's no some one that was a teenager and a leader.
This book was a bit redundant should have been shorter and added to the next book. I know it is to set up the next book but was not good enough to stand alone.
In this series it holds its' own. Definately not the best, but falls right in with the story.
Narrators really enhance this book. They do a fantastic job.
I personally like this series a lot, so I'm probably biased about how good the book really is. Like I said earlier, it's by far not the best, but it does bring the story closer to a finale.
The narrators are perfect!
Yes! First of all the author is a fantastic writer. They make you understand every thought of the character making you feel completely invested in each one of them. The battle scenes are very descriptive making it easy to picture the scene vividly. Secondly, the story line is very interesting. I love this series.
Honestly, I loved each character equally. They were developed nicely. Even Five. I understand his reasoning but at the same time frustrated at what he did. Nine was annoying but for really good reason. He is the only one of the group I believe other than Six, that takes things as serious as it is. He sensed some weakness in Five and was right to be on him so hard. Although in the end, he went a little to far. He didn't think things through, which is a common trait they all share and again it bit him in the butt.
Yes, but the one that was reading for Sam in the beginning puts me to sleep every time. If he was just reading for Sam that would be fine, but during his performances when he read for the others, and for Malcolm. He um....well needed to put some pep in his voice. Really his voice was hypnotic and in a dreamy put me to sleep sort of way. Thank goodness he doesn't read during the entire book. I couldn't have taken it.
I can't say I laughed or cried. But I was annoyed somewhat. The guards are so not prepared for what they are up against. They really dont have a plan. They were given chests they still know nothing about. Honestly, I would love to see them come together with a plan. That was very frustrating. They can win, but they are so unprepared.
Oh, yes lots.1. What were the Original Guards thinking? They sent these children and cepans out with little knowledge. They gave them chests to help but no instructions. What they did is like giving a toddler weapons and say ok defend yourself and save the world. I can see why Five felt the way he did.2. I think there should be a book about the cepans. Because really they all proved to be ineffective. The only thing i can see that they did is protect them but training?? Not at all, they know so little about what do do....that is so frustrating. If there is a book, please tell me.3. Ok, Ella really needs to be explained more. The ending left me feeling sad the next book is not out yet. Hurry it up!4. They have to explain more about Pitticus Lore and they other Guards. There should be a book about them too.I really felt that as good as this book is written, it just left so many more unanswered questions.
There is a lot of tedious training going on that isn't furthering the plot. I would have liked to see less of that.
It's not as good as the previous books in the series. The first half of the book is interesting but the second half is tiresome and quite dull.
Maybe, if they don't care about their money
The story is interesting, they just need to get on with it. The title made it too predictable.
Some yes, some no. None of them were terrible, but there a little sub-par to many of the other audiobooks I have.
Yes, just not the money. The last two books should have been combined as one book as they are short and fluffy.
I like the story - but the books are way too short for full price. I think Pitacus Lores legacy is the ability to string along a concise series into as many books as they can get away with.
I have recommended this already---the entire series.
I know many people say they do not like the narrators, but I actually liked them and so did my husband (for all of the books). I used to never listen to audiobooks because I had a hard time paying attention. Other than the Harry Potter series, these are some of the only books that have been able to keep my attention.
Still, I really like the overall story. It is interesting and exciting. I cannot wait for book 5.
I always like the last scenes of these books because they make me want to get to the next one right now.
