    "enjoyable for young and old."
What made the experience of listening to The Activist the most enjoyable?

My 9 year old loves this series. No sexual undertones or needs for parental worry. I can listen to it with her and find it enjoyable also. The dialogue about legal process is educating and appropriately written for children to understand. I recommend this series.

Theo Boone is a 13 year old kid of two lawyers who wants also to be a lawyer. He is disciplined, a good friend, smart, in pretty good communication with his parents who usually share their feelings and reasons with him, who often listen to his side of issues - but not always, so he has additionally learned discretion. As an early teen, he is learning his own code of ethics. In "Activist", Grisham nicely prepares the stage, and does not suddenly create a monster out of Theo, but gets his protagonist involved through very personal events: a friend's plight, and a painful incident involving his beloved mutt of mixed parentage, Judge. The story is very well developed, allowing Theo to develop his own viewpoint, through his exposure and experiences, and through talks with his renegade uncle, and friends. You can see his growing process, and because of this, and his innate
values of friendship, loyalty, and doing his own research, this book was my favorite. However, I still recommend beginning at the beginning; it's much more rich.

    "Another winner from John Grisham!"
What made the experience of listening to The Activist the most enjoyable?

I was able to listen with my Granddaughter. It held both our attention

Who was your favorite character and why?

The uncle was interesting. Of course Theo

What does Richard Thomas bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

    I liked his voice

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It was a good family portrait. The parents were a bit different in the way they raised their only child. It was funny how they repeated the same instructions daily.

    Any additional comments?

I love all things John Grisham. The only ones I haven't read is the ones with subjects that make me uncomfortable And I know one day I will eventually read them all

    "love Grisham's Theo Boone series!"
Would you listen to The Activist again? Why?

Sure it is a great feel good story about the good things of a small town.

What other book might you compare The Activist to and why?

Any of his other novels - it might be for kids but adults can enjoy the series.

How could the performance have been better?

I dont like Richard Thomas as a narrator but bit the bullet and went with it because I love Grisham. Thomas just doesnt sound like a kid or even a good narrator.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No it isnt that kind of book but I really like Grisham's technique of writing where the reader is the hero or fly on the wall in the story. I am always laughing at his depictions of Theo's mom and dad, his dog Judge and the court room scene where he writes the thugs were sworn to the tell the truth and immediately started lying! Loved it! Grisham takes these moments that readers can relate to in an everyday way that are hilarious.

    Any additional comments?

I dont like Grisham's non legal novels but I like how he captures the good things of small town living, serious hardworking people and idealism. He also captures modern day living of two income couples, wise beyond their years kids and adds well meaning adults who you see in your everyday life. Homey, comfortable and reminds me a baby boomer of some fond memories as a kid back in the day!
