Publisher's summary

When tragedy strikes close to home, Mickey Bolitar and his loyal new friends - sharp-witted Ema and the adorkably charming Spoon - find themselves at the center of a murder mystery involving their friend Rachel. Now, not only does Mickey have to continue his quest to uncover the truth about the Abeona Shelter and the Butcher of Lodz, he needs to figure out what happened to Rachel - no matter what it takes.

Mickey has always been ready to sacrifice everything to help the people he loves. But how can he protect them when he’s not even sure who - or what - he’s protecting them from?

Not my favorite

I didn’t realize that this was a young adult novel when I bought it I guess. I usually really enjoy Harlan Cobins books but had difficulty with accepting the heavy role of young teens getting involved with such serious activities as they were in this book. Too much of a leap of faith for me and I will not order any more Micky Bolitar books. Maybe teens would enjoy them but I’ll pass.

enjoyed this one

I really enjoyed this book -- I was not sure after I read several reviews and they were sort of negative.
Now Me, I liked it . It is told by a 16 year old boy -- which is part of a lot of the reviews but he is 16 so that is his way of thinking and doing things.

His uncle was in this story more which I really liked.

My opinion worth a listen

Love all of Harlan Coben's books.

I love all of his books. I love how he really starts with trying to figure out what happened and what went wrong and then dives in deep.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

"Stop after 1"

The first book in this series was "Shelter," and was a promising start to the series. This 2nd was a let down. The mystery and twists were still there, but the plot just felt far less believable. I'll end up reading the 3rd book to give the series another chance, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it goes better than this.

Page Turner

Loved the transition from Book 1 into the second. At times, the charcter, who is 14, comes across as way too mature for this years. Other than that, a page turner.

Best of the Series

I got my books mixed up and listened to Book 3 before Book 2. However, This book really was necessary in order to understand Book 3. I will probably listen to book 3 again. I really liked this book in comparison to the other two. It has some real plot twists, particularly in explaining the death of Rachel's mom. It was logical and advanced the story a great deal. I do find it a little boring how Mickey continues to say he simply will not lie, no matter who the truth hurts. I don't find that to be particularly realistic, but the author needs it for the story to move in the right direction. I have listened to better series, but I still would recommend this one to people who are not looking for particularly deep plots.

Love the ending

This is a great series to go back to the YA genre. The writing is very riveting. I love books who takes time to develop characters because I was invested with each of them, including the antagonist. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Keeps getting better

Would you consider the audio edition of Seconds Away to be better than the print version?

Harlan Coben does a great job of telling Mickey's story, crafting an interesting mystery while simultaneously making us feel the familiar pangs of high school angst such as sports, friends and crushes.

They Myron Bolitar series is one of my favorites, and Mickey is a chip off the ol' block.

This book has a great amount of suspense, and a more plausible story than the previous one in the series.

The narration is excellent and makes a big difference, particularly when there are characters of all ages.

I can't wait for the next book in this series.
