    "Good Series for Boys"

Michael and clan pick up where the first left off, on the run to save his mother and stop the Elgen plan from "Hatching". The romance between Michael and Taylor is more in the background, yet other characters are fleshed out more creating new interest.

This series is a mixture of Firestarter (Stephen King) meets Percy Jackson. Excellent series for boys grades 4-12. Enjoy!

    "Excellent!"
Would you consider the audio edition of Rise of the Elgen to be better than the print version?

I don't know; I do very little print

Who was your favorite character and why?

I thought the stinky guy was intriguing

What does Fred Berman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

keeping it moving along; didn't get sleepy from sitting and reading

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When the stinky guy sacrificed himself; also the friendships were moving and how they all stuck together.

    Any additional comments?

These are really good books. I highly recommend. The premise of the power with the rats was very unique, kind of disgusting and very interesting all at the same time.

Would you listen to Rise of the Elgen again? Why?

Fun story with lots of adventure the entire family can appreciate.

Who was your favorite character and why?

After reading all the books in the series, you feel like all the characters are friends of yours.

    Any additional comments?

This book made the 6 hour car ride seem to fly by. When we had to stop for driving breaks, the kids complained that the book had to be stopped for few minutes and were anxious to start it again as soon as we were all back in the car.

    "More please!!"

Great story , Michael and his Electroclan vs Elgen! You cannot stop cheering for Michael and his clan as they clear each new obstacle. I felt like I was right there as Michael extended his search for him mother. I really enjoyed seeing Wade transform from a bulling jerk to a stand up, dependable friend.

    "Loved it!"
Would you try another book from Richard Paul Evans and/or Fred Berman?

Absolutely. Going to finish out the series.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Rise of the Elgen?

My favorite moment is Michael's reunion with his mother.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Fred Berman?

Mr. Berman is a wonderful narrator. With as many different voices and accents that are involved in this particular book, he does a great job and is consistent throughout.

Do you think Rise of the Elgen needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Well, it already has one, so yes.

"Huge setting change from the first book"

Most of the events of this book take place in South America. It seems largely accurate in it's descriptions of places, but the setting change is so jarring from the first book. Michael Vey doesn't stay in Idaho, or even in America, but takes the fight to the evil ElGen corporation.

Again, Michael's condition is largely ignored throughout the book. Which may be the point. Dr Hatch is again back as the main villian and the ElGen have developed new weapons and tactics in the 13 hours since we left our heroes at the end of the first book.

The setting change, while jarring, does move the book away from the cliches of the first book. The heroes are virtuous to a fault and the bad guys are evil to the hilt.

All in all it remains a typical teen hero fantasy in an unusual setting.

"Written as a kids book but great for adults too."
Would you consider the audio edition of Rise of the Elgen to be better than the print version?

Fred Berman does another oustanding job.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Rise of the Elgen?

Trouble at the Star Source plant in Peru!

What about Fred Berman’s performance did you like?

Voices of Michael, Austin, Dr. Hatch and Jack.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It's a nice change. A clean book for teens but really for all ages. I am not a science fiction lover at all and love this series. Richard Paul Evean is really onto something here and a big thanks to Mercury Ink for producing this series. The books make you laugh and cry.So nice to see kid's actually make the decision in life to "do what is right" .

    Any additional comments?

A great read and I can't wait for the remaing 4 books in the series to come out.
