Publisher's Summary

After the successful but disastrous raid on Mount Weather, Daemon's facing the impossible. Katy is gone. Taken. Everything becomes about finding her. Taking out anyone who stands in his way? Done. Burning down the whole world to save her? Gladly. Exposing his alien race to the world? With pleasure.

Surrounded by enemies, the only way Katy can come out of this is to adapt. After all, there are sides of Daedalus that don't seem entirely crazy, but the group's goals are frightening and the truths they speak even more disturbing. Who are the real bad guys? Daedalus? Mankind? Or the Luxen?

But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on? And will they even be together?

"The Series Gets Richer and Ricer in intrigue"

In order to appreciate this novel you have to start at the beginning. In Origin, the DoD takes the stage front and center. I will not say more about this; but what is outstanding is the way Armentrout continues to widen the the plot. In the first novel, you get lulled into thinking this is a trite YA romance about aliens, and by this book she has widened the scope and brought many serious issues to bear. She masterfully brings up relevant issues that affect us in society today. If you look beyond her story for her message, I think you'll be impressed with the questions she raises and her opinions she has offered so far.

In this book, Eyre reads from Kat's POV and Shapiro from for Daemons's. This narration is especially potent in the audio book, I am not sure it would be as good if you were reading it. The author's ability to use dialog to move the story forward is excellent as is her character development. I highly recommend the book and I can't wait for the final outcome. If the last four books are any indication, it should be a hit. I hope so, because book three of Divergent and Hunger Games were such a disappointment. That said, on to book 5.

    "Cliffhanger ending!"

So, I took a break from this series because Katy really got on my nerves in the last book. That tends to happen with me and YA books. I'm happy to say that wasn't the case in this book.

This one starts with Daedalus trying to persuade Katy to cooperate with them. They are presenting themselves as the Knights in shiny armor but Katy isn't buying it. When that doesn't work their true motivations come to the surface and she gets put to the test. Meanwhile, Daemon has surrendered himself to get back to Katy. The horror stories from Beth and Dawson become Daemon and Katy's nightmare. What happens when a hybrid and a Luxen have children? A creepy-freaky Origin, that's what. They're more powerful than their parentage and truly 'other'.

I really enjoyed this book except for the cliffhanger ending-grrrr! It was action-packed, pretty sappy (rolls eyes), and filled with surprises. It makes you question things. With all of the bad guys out there, how will everyone survive?

I love books and love to get lost in the fantasy. I'm always looking for a new good story to bury myself in. :)

"Great addition to the series! :D"

    5 stars

Wow...this was a great addition to the series! I loved Katy and Daemon in this story. Katy is taken captive by a government agency that deal with (aka experiments on) aliens and the hybrids that the Luxen can make from humans. Daemon puts himself in a bad situations and at great personal risk to be with Katy and they find out a lot but it's hard to tell what's the truth and what's lies when it seems like everyone is so sincere while double crossing you.

After a lot of pain and drama, Katy & Daemon are reunited with their friends/family. They're able to escape the gov but the fight brings their race firmly "out" to the public. The story ends with a major cliffy as an invasion force of thousands in Luxen land of planet Earth and seem to have control over the Luxen already there. I can't wait to see what happens next!

I enjoyed this story immensely! Daemon and Katy are so good together in this book. They go through so much and I can only hope that they'll eventually get their HEA. This story had a good amount of action and suspense in it as well so it kept me well engaged. I'd recommend this story/series. :D

    * note - There were 2 narrators, a female for the parts from Katy's PoV and a male for the parts from Daemon's PoV. They both did good jobs.

    "We finally hear Deamon's POV"

I loved this book because we finally get to hear what is going on in Daemon’s head with the dual POV. This book can be hard to read/listen to because of what happens to Katy and Daemon at the hands of Daedalus. There is betrayal from friends. There is a lot of heart breaking death. The ending is a huge cliffhanger too.

    "Awesome series"

I listened to this audio as part of a reread before the final book came out. It took some getting used to, as the narrator mispronounces the main characters name throughout the audio. Otherwise, it's really enjoyable.

What made the experience of listening to Origin the most enjoyable?

The addition of male narrator Rob Shapiro made this audiobook reread of Origin the most enjoyable for me. I still really, really hate that female narrator, Justine Eyre didn't bother to check with the author on the proper pronunciations of the main character's name, Daemon and other mispronounced terms. Rob followed her example which is my only criticism of his performance. Otherwise, his narration is almost flawless.

What other book might you compare Origin to and why?

Right now, none. It's so unique and still one of my top favorite upper young adult/new adult hybrid paranormal reads.

Have you listened to any of Justine Eyre and Rob Shapiro ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I've listened to Lauren Kate's Fallen series which is also narrated by Justine Eyre. I enjoyed Justine's narration on that series better than this one. I hate to beat a dead horse, but I will seriously never understand why she didn't contact the author, Jenifer L. Armentrout to verify how to pronounce the main character's name correctly and several other special names and terms. I'd never listened to a book narrated by Rob Shapiro before hearing him narrate this series, but I have definitely added him to my favorite narrators list.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There are too many to list them all, but: **********SPOILERS!!!*********when Daemon has to heal Katy from the brink of death and their wedding celebration are two that immediately come to mind.

    Any additional comments?

The story was 5-stars, Justine's performance 3-stars (her male voices also bothered me a bit) and Rob's performance 4.5-stars. In this series case, I simply can't factor in the narrator's performances in my overall rating. This installment in the Lux series is so chock full of goodness that not even the continued mispronunciations could diminished my giddy pleasure at rereading it. I seriously still ♥ this series hard!

What annoys me is the mispronunciation of Daemon's (Day-mon) not demon. She should fix it!

"Good adition to the story with minor complications"

I liked this book and it is a good adition to the series, but there are a couple hang-ups in my opinion. First, the second narrator. I enjoyed having Demon’s point of view, and it was necessary, but Rob Shapiro didn’t differentiate his voices, especially with the female characters. Justine Eyre did such a good job with the male voices, and they should have stuck to her reading Demon’s Pov in the voice she used for him. A good example of this would be Kate Rud’s performance in Out of Breath, when her narrative was in the same voice she used for the male character.
    Spoiler alert:
After Kat and Demon escape Area 51, and make it to vegas, then have to flee, the author makes a research error. Having had lived in Las Vegas all my life it wasn’t hard for me to miss, and actually greatly detracted from what happened afterward. The group is fleeing Las Vegas for Arizona, and there is opposition by means of a pile up on the interstate nearby the strip, so they start a war on the strip by revealing themselves to the public for a distraction. I just want to point out that I15 leads to either California or Utah. To go to Arizona, they’d need to take U.S 95, which wouldn’t put them in the path of the Vegas strip. . It’s minor, but it bugged me.

    Any additional comments?

I thought the 1st few chapters moved along like alien version of twighlight and I almost quite, but so glad I kept on. The action became quite intense and I lost sleep in order to finish this book. I bought the 2nd in the series before I'd even finished this one! The ending was abrupt and i just had to go right into the next book. (I don't do that often)
