Publisher's summary

A mysterious island.

An abandoned orphanage.

A strange collection of very curious photographs.

It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that makes for a thrilling listening experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets 16-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow - impossible though it seems - they may still be alive.

A spine-tingling fantasy, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows.

Really liked it

The book is definitely darker than the movie, which makes sense. I didn't have any issues with the reader's performance and feel like he was a good choice since Jacob is a 16 year old that just fell into uniqueness; not everyone can adapt as well as Harry Potter, lol.

narrator almost made me stop, glad I pushed on!

This was a book I sought out. The narrator has a gravelly voice that I did not enjoy. The story was as interesting as I imagined.

I usually love books like this

The accents were atrocious, the writhing uninspired. The only thing that saved this from being a complete dud was the creative story. There were a few times than I found myself thinking, "Ok you don't have to explain it to me. Get on with the story. "

Would have been better without accents

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend a friend read the book rather than listen to the book. I was distracted by the cockney accents the narrator gave every character except Jacob, and he made Jacob sound kind of naive yet conceited.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children?

The various peculiarities of each child, but it was a little hard while listening to keep each one straight with his/her particular peculiarity.

What didn’t you like about Jesse Bernstein’s performance?

I thought the accents could be much better. Everyone who was supposed to be British sounded cockney. I don't think it's a particularly attractive kind of British accent, and everyone had it. It was extremely distracting, and I found myself just getting annoyed and being more critical of the writing. I think I missed part of the story because I was so distracted by the accents.
