Publisher's summary

Sixteen-year-old Leinad thought he was a common farmer's son, nothing more. He wondered why his father had trained him for years to master the sword, not exactly a tool of the trade for farmers. But one tragic event initiates a world of revelation. Only then does he begin to understand his calling, a calling no other man in the entire kingdom of Arrethtrae can fulfill - a calling given him by the King himself.

Teamed with a young slave girl, Leinad is thrust into adversity and danger for the Dark Knight and his vicious Shadow Warriors will stop at nothing to thwart the King's plan to restore the kingdom. Leinad will need more than a sharp blade and a swift hand to fulfill his mission and survive the evil plots of the King's sworn enemies! Journey to Arrethtrae, where the King and his son implement a bold plan to save their kingdom; where courage, faith, and loyalty stand tall in the face of opposition; where good will not bow to evil and the future of a kingdom lies in the hands of a young man.

More in the Kingdom series.

how irritating

background music should be in the background, NOT compete with narration. there are bits when i missed because the background was louder then the text. one of the accents was so bad i was glad then the it was competing with the background! the main narrator reads like the main character is in constant panic. after an hour of this, i had to give it up!

this is one audio i do not recommend!

Great story, lousy production

In the grand tradition of Narnia and other fantasy allegories, Kingdom's Dawn shadows several key figures and events from the Fall of Adam and Eve, through the calling of Moses in the wilderness. Apart from a couple battle scenes that seem to go on for a bit too long, even younger readers may enjoy following young Leinad as he discovers life beyond the safety of his father's farm to follow a higher calling given to him by the Unseen King of Arrethtrae. This was one time, though that I think the audiobook detracted from the enjoyment of the story. Like other reviewers, I felt the dramatized version was unbalanced, often with background music and sound effects eclipsing the vocals and narration. I may decide to pick up the next installment in the series on Kindle instead.

Audio Errors

The Background & sound effects take away from not add too the story. In future volumes I can only hope that the mixer takes this into account and lowers the power of the FX or removes it entirely.

Kingdoms Dawn

this book has a great story line it flows well. The only problem I had was that throughout the book they would play background music. It would over power the Reader. I would sometimes loose the story because of it

Great story, distracting sound effects.

The main narrator did a great job and the overall story is really captivating, but the sound effects (running water, animal noises, or swords clashing) were really distracting and completely interrupted the flow of the story. There are those dramatic moments in the book that capture your attention, but whenever those cheap sound effects cut in they kill the mood.

If there was just one narrator and no sound effects, this book would get five stars from me in both the preformance and story categories.

Very well done, comments on sound

this was a great audio book. the story is great, and the Bible stories symbolized we're evident in the story. I liked it a lot.

many people commented that it was difficult to hear the words spoken when they played music and sound effects. the sound effects and narrated voices we're good. I listened to this audio book through several mediums;
when I listened on head phones, I did not have any problems discerning the words spoken and I do not feel that it took anything away from the performance. After the first time I heard the music pop up, I was thinking it might be a little overpowering but then I don't think I really paid attention to it that much again.
when I listened in the car I had some times when the music seamed to be a little more distracting. I messed with the radio settings, bass ect... and then did not have any problem.
when I listened through just a simple, run of the mill speaker, that is when I could tell what people were commenting about. however, the story line was great and the music only pops up now and then. I could still hear what was being said, but it was a little tougher to hear.
overall, great book and I'm planning on getting the whole series at some point. I was hoping that there would be a single download of it but I guess I will get them little by little over time

good story

while it is a good story, the back ground noises are louder than the words. it was hard to hear over the noises of the desert creatures
