Publisher's summary

One choice can transform you - or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves - and herself - while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

Tris's initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable - and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.

New York Times best-selling author Veronica Roth's much-anticipated second book of the dystopian Divergent series is another intoxicating thrill ride of a story, rich with hallmark twists, heartbreaks, romance, and powerful insights about human nature.

Another Great Listen

I really liked Divergent and the voice actor for the series, so if you’ve already listened to the first one this one will be just as pleasing!

The emotional rollercoaster!!

The highs and lows of this book are so extreme. Tris jumping in and out of the simulations, realizing they are simulations and coming back to reality are so captivating. Veronica Roth outdid herself with this one. The dynamic between Tris and Tobias is so unique and complex. Of course, I've seen the movies and love the dynamic Theo James and Shaliene Woodley had on screen, but the movie just does not dive deep enough into the substance of their connection to really do it justice. Their love and understanding of each other is almost telepathic, even in the moments where Tris is thinking she has no idea what he has going on. Their lovers quarrells are so realistic, and you can tell the love never leaves their bond.

Last, but not least; the voice actress! Her voice is exactly as I would imagine Tris' voice to sound. Her cadence and pace changes during emotional moments is top tier.

Love this book (I think even more than the 1st). 10/10 would recommend.

A great dystopian book

In such a dystopian novel, it’s so refreshing to read how human Tris is.

I’ve always been such a big fan of the movies - watching them at least once/month - but this book was written so well and narrated perfectly.

Going into this I did have an idea of what would happen, but it’s just *chefs kiss* and I’m so glad I listened to the books even though I’ve seen the movies.

Definitely recommend!

Can I be dauntless??

Worth waiting for!

I'll admit it, I didn’t know how this would go. Would the author be able to keep up the pace of the last book?

My doubts are laid to rest! This was just as fast and intense as the first book! This is a very strong second installment. If you liked ‘Divergent’ you’re going to be a very happy reader!

It’s not just the action that moves the story, either. Tris and Tobias are becoming more and more complex as characters. You could say that one becomes visibly more divergent, while the other almost seems to become less. All the characters start out bruised and battered, and there isn’t time for physical or emotional healing. Amidst the action and chaos, we watch as Tris uncovers “layers upon layers” of the people around her. Inner strengths, secrets, and betrayals lie waiting in unexpected places.

You get to see more of the city in this book, and get to know a little more about what goes on in different factions, which I really enjoyed. The whole concept of factions is so unique that it was exciting to check out the inner workings of those beside Dauntless and Abnegation!

‘Insurgent’ also filled in some places I had wrongly thought were weak points in the overall storyline. Not all my questions are answered yet, but it’s obvious now that the author does have a big picture clearly in mind! We'll have to wait until next year to see how things end, but now I have even more faith that it'll be worth the wait.

Emma Galvin narrates beautifully. She truly gives Tris her voice. I can’t imagine anyone doing it better.

Overall this was wild, intense, and often surprising. Seriously, for anyone reading this who likes action, YA, and dystopia who *hasn’t* started this series yet… Be dauntless. Just jump in!

2nd in the series

This is a fantastic youth novel and series. I enjoyed both Divergent and Insurgent equally and found them to be wonderful reads. I hope that it makes young people think about how important it is to question what is going on in your community. I'm excited for the third book in the series to come out and highly recommend this novel to teens and adults alike.

Wow...I wasnt expecting that....

Where does Insurgent rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I was not fond of the narration as a whole....but the story was complex and very interesting....

What was one of the most memorable moments of Insurgent?

When Tobias asks Tris to hang on for just 2 more weeks...she did not want to, but she does....

Which scene was your favorite?

When Tris is finally saved..and Tobias washes her feet...touching...

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

possibly after I got passed the first half...

Any additional comments?

Again, the ending of this book saved the entire story for me....and yes...it made me want more! Interested in the next book...I now need to see where it ends...

Who am I

I have to say I am a bit let down by this book after the first book. I feel like I was let down. I had trouble with chapter after chapter of Tris wanting to die and trying just about everything she could to accomplish that goal. Along with all the self pity over living when others did not.

If it wasn't for the fact that there is only one more book left I'm not sure I would finish the series. I just hope that the next book is not filled with the same Tris issues as this one.

A Y/A review from an old lady...

Is there anything you would change about this book?

As a "mature" adult, I suppose I would omit all of the teenage kissing, gasping, hormonal back and forth-borderline Silhouette/Harlequin Romance for tweens; however, that is the target audience...it was a risk, but I think it was worth it.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

The ending was enough to make me want to grab the third book. There's a fun surprise waiting just within the last chapter!

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Emma Galvin?

I can't say, but the narration wasn't for me. I really wanted to hear the story, though, but we must do things like work, right?

Was Insurgent worth the listening time?

I utilized Whispersync (sp?) for this book, which I find fantastic. I always love the option of listening, as life never permits enough time for all of the great books available.

Any additional comments?

The author has an ability to draw one in, and really allow one to view this dystopian version of the future through the eyes of a young female adult. I would certainly recommend this to young readers (14+, or am I being frigid???), especially those who may not typically read a great deal. The books are filled with enough intriguing twists to engage young readers. The format is very much along the same lines as the Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins. I do think it's something adults can enjoy, as well. There is a great deal of action, and violence; however, the underlying message does not condone these actions but is more of an Orwellian warning.

Great Book

What made the experience of listening to Insurgent the most enjoyable?

The narration was great! The action/adventure was great as well!

Who was your favorite character and why?

4 was my favorite even though he put up with the main characters stupidity. He was my favorite because I can relate to his strengths and weaknesses.

What does Emma Galvin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She has a wonderful voice!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not moved, but hit hard when we find out a boy was a traitor all along.

Any additional comments?

This book was great and I can't wait for the next!!!

Another great Veronica Roth book!!

Yet again I was sucked into the world of the Divergent!! This book was as good as the first one! It pains me to know that I will have to wait for the 3rd one to come out!! I need instant gratification when I'm into a great series!! Divergent didn't disappoint me and neither did Insurgent! My husband hates books like these but he's read BOTH of them and loved them! This is one of those books you can pick up in a year or two and read again! I HIGHLY recommend this book.
