Publisher's summary

One choice can transform you - or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves - and herself - while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

Tris's initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable - and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.

New York Times best-selling author Veronica Roth's much-anticipated second book of the dystopian Divergent series is another intoxicating thrill ride of a story, rich with hallmark twists, heartbreaks, romance, and powerful insights about human nature.

Good (great) 2nd book in trilogy

Good second book in the trilogy. Thank you to those that recommended and encouraged me to read it. I thought this had more action than the first, and it seemed to have more twists than I was expecting. I am going on to the third book - but would recommend this trilogy to others.

Good continuation.

Any additional comments?

This book is a good continuation of the series. My original fear in getting this book series was that it would be saturated with the "i'm in love and now not in love" feelings of a teenage girl, no offence I just can't stand that stuff. The book does a descent job of sticking to the story. While a descent book, it does not really leave me needing to rush to the next installment. I just can't see it advancing in a manner that will not become ridiculous.

Blown away

Words cannot describe. This book made me cry and gave me chills. I was compelled to finish it. Emma Galvin is a great reader as well!

entertaining

Would you try another book from Veronica Roth and/or Emma Galvin?

probably

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

This is a good story, but wow were there a lot of contradictions. One minute Tris absolutely one way and the next she's the opposite. One minute she's masquerading as an Ameity, and totally fools a guard, and the next she's reflecting on how her tattoos show in her Ameity dress.??...so how did she fool the guard? The whole book is full of these kinds of contradictions, with a big one at the end that I will not reveal as it would be a spoiler. I like the characters, but I was frustrated and confused with Tris's roller coaster thoughts and actions, but maybe that is because she is so Divergent :) and with the many contradictions. In general, I thought this second book was not as thought out and cohesive as the first.

What about Emma Galvin’s performance did you like?

She did a good job with differentiating between characters.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Yes

Any additional comments?

These books are good entertainment if you do not pay too close attention to what is actually happening, or wonder which faction forges the steel to make the guns, or why,if they have computer and network technology, haven't they hooked up a telephone, etc... but I very much enjoyed both books, and will listen to the third and hope for a bit less violence, and a bit more romance.

YA is no excuse for unbelievable

What did you like best about Insurgent? What did you like least?

I saw the first movie, and the family asked for the audiobook. The plot has some interesting twists, too bad that those twists and turns don't happen in a believable world. It's not so much that the simulation drugs are beyond believable, I can "suspend belief" for more far-fetched concepts, but the whole world of the story lacks substance and the basics of civilization, while still pretending that some civilization exists. No one actually picks up trash, or cans food, or runs powerplants. That is all some distopian fantasy with a given invisible infrastructure, that wont actually work for the factions described. I can pass over the teenage raging hormones is the middle of battle, But the heroine's giving in to her inherent weakness compared to all the males around her, just seem to be the finishing blow. She spends too much time feeling the victim, for me to enjoy the story. I'll be interested in the conclusion enough to see the last movie, but the book/audiobook isnt really worth my time.

enthralling but slow

The book had me engaged most of the time. The story was inspiring too. however, the time spent giving the reader insight into every single emotion and sensation kept slowing down what would have been an exciting, and action-packed adventure.

the first was better

Good performance by the narrator, but the story took a dive from the first book.

Good Book. Not as good as the Divergent, but good.

The Book was Good. Not as good as the Divergent, but it was worth listening to it... I would recommend the two books.
